Misdirection Plays

It seems both Miami, and then Washington used misdirection plays to put the Dallas defense on their heels.

Two things.

In your opinion, is Quinn on top of this now? Seems those plays really take advantage of the aggressiveness of the Dallas defense getting after the QB and attempting to find a run defense.

Second, why doesn't Dallas run these types of plays?

For that matter, can this team actually run a screen - and not one of those silly naked screens which end up losing yards?

I'd love to see McCarthy pull up a part of the playbook he has been holding back for the next four games.

I don't know I don't get it, I guess we're too afraid to make defenses think!! We're stuck in our plays and that's all we will do

Now in some games you will see them do a few things differently, but it needs to be a staple to keep defenses on their toes like they do our defense

One I can see right now. Is the Dak keeper run up the middle, with fake hand-off to TP.

Last time, they ran that play was Vs Rams, I think?

We are suckers for misdirection which is one of the primary reasons we struggle against the 49ers.

Misdirection has been a defensive issue for this team in multiple games. Teams figured out a while back that the Cowboys aggressive attack style is vulnerable to misdirection or even just a simple outside quick pitch where the RB or WR gets to the edge without disruption.

Also- Our LBs are quick but not that big, which makes them vulnerable to pulling Guards who can tie them up before they can get to the ball. Saw a scouting report on Damone Clark when he was at LSU that said he was very quick but his quickness made him vulnerable to reverses and misdirection plays. That has remained the case in Dallas. Clark is a good, not great LB in run run support. (I see LB as a major draft priority)

Some teams will also run right at Parsons to use his quickness upfield against him. Off tackle draws and trap plays can take advantage of his fast upfield push then allow the runner to run where he just vacated.

I know the Cowboys coaches have made adjustments and have worked on this. It’s still amazing to me that stopping the run remains the weakness of this defense for the umpteenth year. We can still do well in the playoffs as long as we don’t get behind by two scores and force the defense to just stop the run.
