Misgivings about Deuce Vaughn

I watched a couple of games with Deuce Vaughn, and although he has some wiggle, and broke off some good runs in college, he also has an awful lot of plays where he gets stopped at the line of scrimmage. Due to his slight build, he gets swallowed up easily. I expect he will have an awful lot of carries in the NFL that go for zero yards - more than fans will be willing to tolerate.

He’s a great story, and I wish the kid well. But just based on their bodies of work to date, I have more trust that Ronald Jones will be a better back up to Pollard than Vaughn. Of course, I am MORE THAN WILLING to be wrong, but I don’t have a lot of hope that Vaughn will become a meaningful contributor in the Cowboys offense - at least not until he bulks up considerably. But even if he does, he still doesn’t have the break-away speed that you’d like to see in a backup gadget type RB.

Sorry to fans of Deuce, but that’s my honest opinion. I would have preferred picking Tucker out of Syracuse.

Kid can be a very good complementary back or nothing lead back

If we’re playing Pollard and Vaughn we better have a starting quality RB as #2 and, No, that is not Luepke

Most receiving yards of any RB in this draft.

More rushing yards than any of the top 10 RBs in this draft.

I watched a 35 minute highlight video of his efforts. I was highly impressed. Did a lot of damage against power 5 schools. The guy is small in stature but legit. It would be a great shame if the Cowboys don't figure out a way to get this guy involved in the offense...rushing and receiving.

I know. But I just think playing the odds is a better bet. The odds are against him becoming a good NFL RB. But like I said, I’m more than willing to be wrong. The “exceptions to the rule” make for great feel good stories.

Was he stopped at the line running inside, outside, or both?

He'll be good in a limited snaps role.

Darren Sproles averaged playing about 1/3rd of snaps.

Sproles had significantly more receiving yards than rushing yards.

He might be #2 RB in terms of snaps played but not the 2nd RB on the depth chart if Pollard misses a game.

Well crap you just ruined my evening. I don't watch college ball, so I've only seen highlights. Still how did he rack up so much yardage?

He's become my pet cat offensive player of this draft. 6th round diamond in the rough.

Barry Sanders had an inordinate number of runs where he was stopped for no gain or tfl. He lived off the one’s he broke. Vaughn isn’t going to be a “bell cow”… he’s someone you try to get 6 to 10 touches a game.. 3 to 5 of those out in space!

Barry was over 200 lbs. And Barry was way faster than most NFL players, much less running backs.

I didn’t see a lot of tackle breaking ability in watching Deuce film. He was successful by avoiding contact.

Vaughn would be best utilized as a receiving weapon and 3-5 runs a game imo. I mean this is just speculation from his college tape.

Perfectly describes a HOFer - Barry Sanders.

Not saying Vaughn is Sanders in any way.

fair but Zeke has had many plays where he get stuffed at the line. All backs have this issue. Deuce makes up for it by getting 3-4 chunk yard plays during the course of a game that affects the outcome. He runs routes and catches the ball great. Zeke cant. Ill take my chances with the kid.
