Misgivings about Deuce Vaughn

I watched a couple of games with Deuce Vaughn, and although he has some wiggle, and broke off some good runs in college, he also has an awful lot of plays where he gets stopped at the line of scrimmage. Due to his slight build, he gets swallowed up easily. I expect he will have an awful lot of carries in the NFL that go for zero yards - more than fans will be willing to tolerate.

He’s a great story, and I wish the kid well. But just based on their bodies of work to date, I have more trust that Ronald Jones will be a better back up to Pollard than Vaughn. Of course, I am MORE THAN WILLING to be wrong, but I don’t have a lot of hope that Vaughn will become a meaningful contributor in the Cowboys offense - at least not until he bulks up considerably. But even if he does, he still doesn’t have the break-away speed that you’d like to see in a backup gadget type RB.

Sorry to fans of Deuce, but that’s my honest opinion. I would have preferred picking Tucker out of Syracuse.
No, this is not me posting under a different handle.

The first time this kid catches a swing pass or a dumpoff and goes 65 yds for a TD, a LOT of opinions will change. The kid is INCREDIBLY elusive. He's got game changing ability. Don't dismiss it before even giving him a chance. I'll take 4 average plays and a 65 yd TD every 5 touches. Most on this board would also.

How many runs or swing paases go for 65 yards in the NFL?

I know. But I just think playing the odds is a better bet. The odds are against him becoming a good NFL RB. But like I said, I’m more than willing to be wrong. The “exceptions to the rule” make for great feel good stories.
We got Deuce in the back half of the 6th round. That tells us what the *league* thinks of his chances to be a good NFL running back.
He has different assets and liabilities than the mass of RBs. Could be a role in the NFL that he can find success in. But if that role exists, it will not be "generic running back". And I don't care if he could fit that role in college. College ain't the NFL. Everyone is a freak in the NFL. A freak that has trained at football professionally.

Interesting that a 7th round rookie played a major role on the Super Bowl champs just last season.

Well crap you just ruined my evening. I don't watch college ball, so I've only seen highlights. Still how did he rack up so much yardage?

He's become my pet cat offensive player of this draft. 6th round diamond in the rough.
Take it with a grain of salt.

Watch a game like this.

Yes he does get stopped at the LOS early on but he gets better and better.
