I remember the Cowboys going to play the then (San Francisco 49ers) equivalent of the Patriots of today, we marched in and took down the big bad wolf. If we make it to the Super Bowl, I want New England.

I was thinking the same thing watching the Raiders game. That is the ideal scenario for the NFL.

I don't want to face New England in the Super Bowl. Tom Brady would pick us apart, and Bill Belichick (with two weeks to prepare) is the one coach who could exploit any weaknesses Dak has as a rookie signal caller.

Having said that, The Dallas Cowboys vs. Oakland Raiders matchup is one I looked forward to while watching the Cowboys of the 70s, but it never materialized. Either the Raiders never lived up to their end of the bargain (getting beat in the 77 AFC Championship by the Broncos), or we never lived up to our end (getting beat in the 81 NFC Championship by the Eagles).

1980 NFC Championship. The '81 one was against the 49ers.

Let's be real, we don't want to see New England lol. I'll take the fade with Oakland or Denver or anybody else. We aren't ready for Tom Brady with this defense

Raiders/Cowboys was my dark horse pick early on, after we saw that Dak's play really could carry over to the regular season. It'd be a great game. It'd also be fun to see the Raiders play the Pats in the AFC playoffs at some point, since it'd be a little preview of what their OL could do against that Pats defense. We're more versatile than the Raiders are, offensively, but they've got at lot of the elements we've got in place. Either of those teams (or the Chiefs) would be a really tough out for the Cowboys, obviously.

And I'm sure it's been said already but I hate Superbowl talk at this point in the season. It's bad juju. I'm just glad we're underdogs this weekend still.

We haven't faced anything close to that offense. Oakland put up 30 on Denver...by far the best defense in the league.
By far haha please. Last year yes......this year no. Did you even watch the game or any raiders games this year. They struggle on offense from time to time especially in the first half. Not only that but it was a division game for Denver and Oakland.

We could take the Raiders right now but it'd be close, I'm not all that scared of them. But the Pats? Nope. That's the 1 team that could beat us handily.

You're right. I usually start from the date of the game rather than the start of the season. But the start of the season is more accurate. :)

Yup, and both the '80 and '81 NFC Championships sucked the big one, especially the '81 one. Most painful game ever as a Cowboys fan (though I'm too young to remember the Ice Bowl).

I'd love to see the Raiders play the Patriots in the championship game.

Carr gets sacked as he's trying to throw the ball and the Patriots recover the ball, game over.

But wait!!

......the fumble is overturned by the tuck rule and the Raiders proceed to drive down the field and score the winning TD as time runs out
