Video: MMQB: Sorry guys, Cowboys will improve next season

Yeah, investing in the offensive line.is.good for the long-term. I believe he was one of the best players on their board, grade wise.

We upgraded our line, its depth, and drafted a couple of backs that I like so it was a good draft. And we needed up the defense with some nice players.
 
I think it's kind of a no-brainer that we will improve a little look at all the people we're getting back from injury
And we had a pretty good draft.
No we're not going to the Super bowl but there's an outside chance we could sneak into the playoffs with 10 wins if things go right.
It's a tough division the two teams in the NFC championship game come from our division not going to be an easy road.
 
Most football fans, who actually pay attention to things, who aren't complete Jerry haters, who aren't trolls or moronic media outlets know the Cowboys will be in contention for the NFCE this year.
The question is, will they be in contention for anything else beyond that?
 
With all the injuries Dallas had last year it is hard to imagine they won't be a better team this year. The didn't have Bland to start the season, then Diggs got hurt. Overshown was their flashiest LB and he got hurt. Lawrence go hurt, Zack Martin was never right. Dak not playing hurt too. I think they were counting on Sam Williams but he missed the entire season.

The problem for Dallas is some of these players are not coming back to start the season. Some are gone altogether. We don't know when Diggs will be back, or Overshown - if he ever comes back.

I am not falling for the annual optimism rally. That Green Bay game, and the subsequence off-season, ended that for me. But I do see that there are a bunch of thing that could turn in Dallas's favor, and if they do, the Cowboys could be an improved team.

If Guyton improves, if Booker is a plug and play stud OG, if Steele plays like he did at the end of the season, if Dak from 2023 returns, if Mingo can be a good WR2, if Ferguson returns to form, if Williams can play at a high level, if Mazi has a breakout year, if they can find 3 CBs to play at a decent level, and if Sam Williams or Ezeiruaku plays at a high level the Cowboys can be a very good team. But that's a lot of ifs and I haven't even mentioned injuries.

I dunno man, I see more fans that feel this year is yesr one of the a rebuilding process and that they will struggle until the backhalf of the season.

I certainly don't see them in contention against the eagles, they haven't done enough to close that gap and Washington is still better on paper.

I think a more realistic view is a 8 to 9 win season tops with 5 of those wins coming in the last 8 games.

I didn't listen to the video so I don't know what they mean by next season or this season but we're going to improve by default I don't think people understand how decimated we were by injuries literally this team will be better as long as we don't have another injury late in season that started in camp and it just kept coming even the San Francisco 49ers couldn't overcome that 2020 was the same way and we improved big time in 2021 by default.

If we can win 7 games with that team last year, then I believe you have to improve there's no way we're winning less than seven games this year unless we have another rash of major injuries this wasn't not even explainable by cute words on how bad the injury list was last year.

Everyone always wants to point to the offseason but our offseason this year even before the draft was better than last year much more active,

I believe the draft is very well connected to the free agents we brought in this year,, meaning they're doing this for a good reason and not just filling holes for need and everyone thinks we're going to be worse and the Cowboys have Parsons contract still going to be negotiated, they already still have $30 million to spend before that, and I believe they're going to bring in another veteran or 2 at a couple of positions once they figure out what they have or don't have, if people are patient this team is definitely going to be improved from last year.....

That doesn't even take into account some of our second year players that should improve and players we were missing last year like Sam Williams are going to be here this year I mean to me it makes sense that at least on paper we will be an improved team but people who don't believe that and those who do never going to be able to prove it until we play all 17 games we'll see it on the field and then we'll have this discussion on who was right and who was wrong at the end of the year not before we play a single game..

What gap with Washington were you not there last year did you not see that Washington team struggle with the Cowboys backups they literally nearly lost both games I think you're given Washington and the Eagles too much credit because they had to play a very injured Cowboys team so somehow you think there's a big gap especially with Washington I don't see it they lost to our backups game one and had to pull their precious Jayden Daniels and have Marcus Mariota save that game and it took every inch of that game and every second for them to win do you realize they struggled against our practice squad...

And that all came to light if you think there's a gap the gap is between Washington and the Eagles did you see the nfc championship game washington was exposed.

And then they bring in a guy like Debo Samuels and Michael Gallup coming off terrible seasons samuels is not a great addition to their team unless he somehow after three years of decline miracle becomes back to his old self from 2021 and Michael Gallup retired didn't want to play and you call those somehow great additions and some of the other ones they just filled holes from bigger names they lost to me they didn't get better and now that teams know them well and saw what happened in that championship game isn't that a blueprint to beat them isn't that what people say when the Cowboys lose a game like that that now the blueprint is out blah blah blah..

This will be settled on the field. I don't get any of you it's a new year nothing that happened last year is gonna carry over I know you guys speak that that you think the Eagles are now about to go on a New England Patriot run and I'm telling you staying back and watch because every year things can change we don't even know what teams are going to get injured or lose their quarterback and everybody sitting here saying the Cowboys are fighting for last place in innocent E and I find that ridiculous...

Hey if it happens come find me but until we play all 17 games not the first three not the first 8 all 17 and then we can evaluate the season all these people who think they can see into the future don't understand sports. I mean we watched the Texas Rangers win a championship and the very next year fall on their face and not make the playoffs. and they look built for a run right ohh no but things happen injuries happen things change in their own division you cannot guess what's gonna happen just by what happened the year before that's why all these preseason rankings using last year as your guide?? You do realize that strength of schedule ended when last season ended whatever those teams were last year doesn't mean they're going to be the same teams this year so you're looking at the schedule and go man this is going to be hard look at the straight to schedule that's one of the biggest busted narratives in sports using last year's results as what's going to happen this year..

I don't care if he's a rookie head coach or not that's nonsense this is not the first time he's been in the NFL his dad was a head coach forever he's been on championship teams he's played under a lot of very good head coaches he understands that delegating in the staff means more than what he can bring this is not a deer in the headlights guy he has very experienced people on his staff and together they're not going to be surprised by anything.

You act like they just brought some starry eyed kid off like the college ranks like a coordinator and just elevated him to head coach in the Dallas Cowboys... I think that's hilarious I think we need to use that same energy for how many first time head coaches are there this year many of which you thought were going to be better than Brian Schottenheimer why don't we list them all and then say they're not going to be kind to them either that means the Bears are in trouble and for sure the Jaguars are in trouble that guy has no business being a head coach I never even knew he was an offensive coordinator he had one year with Tampa Bay I mean how about the lifer in Aaron Glenn first time head coach I mean these guys are all doomed I mean they're doomed or is it because this is the Dallas Cowboys and nobody likes Brian Schottenheimer is the choice they're going to call him doomed?/!!

Some of the reasoning around here has it's not backed by any common sense or any reality...

this isn't about one person you're going to be improved by default because of the injuries and our head coach his main job is going to make sure his staff gets these players ready,

this is a group this is not a single headed monster here... if I believe anything I'm hearing seeing and reading about Brian Schottenheimer he will lean on his staff and he is not an egomaniacal guy who wants full control of everything, and he will listen, learn, and they will work as a group to get better game by game...

I think this coaching staff as far as everyone that was hired under Brian Schottenheimer is what makes me more comfortable about Brian Schottenheimer to me it's one of the best staffs I've seen us assemble from top to bottom.. Sure it's all on paper but to me they all seem to have similar characteristics they like to be hands on they're very passionate they seem very enthusiastic type of hands on coaches...

I don't know it's like we have four Dan Quinn type personalities you know like Dan Campbell these assistant coaches have that fuel and I believe if you listen to everyone else brian Schottenheimer is very much similar to that he loves being on the field he loves interacting with the players and he brought an entire staff that brings that same passion and not only that they bring success here in the important parts of this team these coaches seem to be a very solid staff talk to bottom.

While I agree with some of your opinion here, as you admitted, that's still a whole lotta IFs to be hoping on.

But then the positivity cartel will attempt to censor any posts that say those IFs might not happen.

I'll just let it play out to post Turkey day cuz I agree with Parcells's old belief of thats when you get a handle on what type team you've got.

If they've imploded before then, I guess there's always the higher draft picks to look forward to.

I am trying to be realistic or objective. This team was 7-10 last year and they have a potentially brutal schedule this season. It is impossible to think that if Dallas had not had all those injuries last year they would not have been better by at least a couple of games. Not having both their CBs last year did hurt them. Some of the backups they tried were just awful. When the finally found Butler and he played well, he got hurt. But at the same time how can you look at their roster and not see they had some gaping holes in the lineup at RB and DT? This year, they still have a problem at DT, although maybe the RB problem has improved with the free agents and draft picks.

All of our blow out losses came down to giving up 150+ yards a game. If our plan is to win games 40 to 38 in those big games, it is a bad plan.

If we give up 17 points a game like KC, I like our chances.
