Video: MMQB: Sorry guys, Cowboys will improve next season

I'd probably not had any less enthusiasm for this team in the Jerry Jones era than I had for that 2016 team going into that season.

Enthusiasm for this season isn't that low, but it's pretty close.

That said, I love the trajectory of our O-line and D-line. And it's fair to say that my enthusiasm for 2026 is already pretty stout. I like where this is going. I just think we're a year, maybe two, away from getting there.
Sounds logical, but Dallas could surprise if they could run the ball and stop the run early in the year and gain some confidence In themselves. If Shottenheimer can instill some discipline and Dallas don't have 12 penalties per game that could help too.

Most football fans, who actually pay attention to things, who aren't complete Jerry haters, who aren't trolls or moronic media outlets know the Cowboys will be in contention for the NFCE this year.
The question is, will they be in contention for anything else beyond that?
Well, thats about 10% of the board.

2016 told me that they can always surprise.

And as I think about it, if anything, that just gives me more reason to be a bigger Debbie Downer, rite? :D

That's the thing about the NFL that isn't true for other professional team sports. There's rarely zero reason for any hope whatsoever as there somewhat often is for MLB and NBA teams going into a given season.

Holy crap...paragraphs.

Many seasoned coaches have floundered when sitting in the big chair for the first time. Regardless of how much coaching experience they had. It's an entirely different entity. Not everyone is suited to it. Just like our D. Co-ordinator. Marty's vast experience as a head coach is irrelevant to Brian's success.

My comment was not a condemnation of Brian's ability. We simply have no track record to base a prediction on. We hope for the best. But the simple fact of the matter is, it's going to be a tough road this season. Whether it's ultimately successful or not.

Make sure you comprehend what I'm writing before you snap back at me for not crowning the upcoming 2025 season a success. As you seem to have glossed over the part where I said the team may be much improved. Which of course, would be in part due to the coaching staff. Or did you just dismiss that part so you could have a reason to be angry?
we're going have to disagree 100 percent.. No it's no just like everybody has different success there is an equal amount of successful elevations as there is unsuccessful so you're putting this all in a negative i'm putting it all in a positive if you don't get that that's what my post was had nothing to do with being angry i'm throwing that passion right back in your face but a 100 percent the other direction....
I know it's not a great example but here's one Rex Ryan dad was a coach his brother was a coach his first head coaching position I believe in the NFL was 2009 with the New York Jets they finished 9-7 Actually odd thing is made it a FC championship game in year one and in year two even better record and guess what went to another AFC championship game... So my prediction in other threads saying that I think maybe the Cowboys as crazy as it sounds could shock the NFL and make it to an NFC championship game.. Oh and please don't say that was an outlier don't make me go through and figure out all this I bet I got confined more examples but it yes it could go south but it could also go North prefer to use north as my example..

I have more confidence in this staff along with BS he is bolstered by this but I'm not worried about him one bit he is not green under the gills ,

this is a guy whose dad was like a head coach in the NFL for like I don't know 16 years, i'm pretty sure he got a good taste of what a head coach is supposed to do along with working under some great head coaches in the past he learned a lot and now he's been elevated and made sure he has a good staff..

So I don't care what you think about him I don't write anything I use text to talk because I'm tired of reading things that that makes no sense there's no angry where is all about angry it's called passion bro just like this staff this is a passionate group that have something to prove and I think they're going to prove it..

I think it's hilarious though you think these head coaches that did come up like Bobby Petrino Nick Saban Myers Chip Kelly just to name a few some of the others that were elevated and it didn't work out from the college ranks these were seasoned head coaches I mean big time championship winning head coaches apparently you didn't look around a league there's a whole lot of first time head coach Emmys the whole league is doomed whenever they elevate a guy..

I could see 2nd place in the NFCE and maybe a wildcard. They won't get past Philly unless the Eagles have serious post-super bowl blues and a ton of injuries. Passing the Rskins is a possibility, they're a bit overrated, won several close games last year, and have almost as many holes in their roster as we do.

30 years of the same BS.

MEdia: Guys, we know you re dumb, but hang on, Dallas will be better this year, we re not saying record, we re not saying team wise, we re not saying coaching what we are saying is by a few years. thats right, improvement will happen because you ll get a few more yards next year, maybe 3 extra points. Now you might go back, but if you do, htats improvement too, we just cant explain it. But if you followed us for 30 years saying the same dumb stuff, we know we have you.

LIke I said. You clearly cannot comprehend what I wrote. At no time did I say we would have a bad season or that Schotty would be bad.

Doesn't matter what you think I didn't or did comprehend most people are saying it was a bad hire he's going to be a jag that we're going to have a losing season and I'm saying it could be quite the opposite just because he's new doesn't mean he's going to struggle they have all offseason to install the offense defense special teams that's what training camp is for pre seasoned you're supposed to workout the lumps and the kinks and you're supposed to come in the game one with a real plan apparently Mike mccarthy didn't get the message because he was still experimenting seven weeks into the season with who was going to be the runners who was going to be the right rotation on the offensive line it was absolutely a mess and he's a lifer as a head coach and he couldn't get it done so how could it be worse we don't need to be experimenting in game one with who you're running out as your lead back and who's going to rotate in for your other backs and who's your best five offensive lineman you're supposed to know this before you enter the season..

So that is my point mike mccarthy was a seasoned Super Bowl winning head coach with all the skins you can think of and he couldn't prepare the team so I'm saying I'm pretty sure being a good employee sitting there Brian Schottenheimer's watched all that and he has a way to correct it I mean at worse it can't be worse...

Our coaching staff could be a little handicap I realize that with the lack of special free agents or bigger trades bigger names but I still feel like this is a much better offseason a much better draft and I believe they're going to have a much better plan going in to the first week than they had last year I think they recognized the mistakes made by the other staff and as weak as this free agency seems to have been up to this point which is not over there's still over four months to get other players brought in if necessary and I realized a draft didn't seem like we fixed any holes but I'm saying I just don't see how it's worse given the fact that take the injuries out of the equation and assume they won't be so bad going into this year that alone is going to be an improved team we went from six wins in 2020 in a very similar situation to 12 wins in 2021 same thing with the quarterback happened everything,

so, I'm choosing to be more positive...

Team was HORRIBLE before the injuries. Stop using that excuse.
The team wasn't horrible the coaches wear those coaches are now gone but the injury started in training camp by the way we lost some of our players every week from training camp preseason and all throughout the season they were there front and center we were missing players and yes we had a poor offseason that would be on the GM so between injuries the old staff and a lack of activity in free agency early on I'm saying that they've already made improvements..

If you can't see that no one's going to be able to help you I don't want to hear about how they were horrible before the injuries the injuries started before they got to game one and it's kept going every week we lost players every week kind of like the Mavericks they're like they never stopped the year before the Rangers it just never stopped San Francisco went through it you can't win when you're losing most of your staff you can't fix or get on the same page when you keep losing players...

So regardless of the rough start if you would have stayed healthy you could have got it fixed and on the right track you can't do that when you keep losing players and don't say it can't happen they started 2018 at 3 and 5 finish 5 and 3 went to the second round of the playoffs you can fix things if you have your starters you can't fix things when you're down to a practice squad players.

It's not an excuse it's a fact in 2020 we only won six games very similar thing happened tons of injuries every week it just kept happening you lose your quarterback for the year you win six games and next year you win 12 games kind of odd huh and this time we changed out the entire coaching staff..

I feel like we've already been more active in free agency before the draft I think they've pinpointed players they wanted not needed in the draft they still have money to bring in other players before game one so with a new staff a more active free agency a targeted draft I believe this team's already going to be better and if they could win 7 games with that mess last year I believe they can easily win three more games this year without having another historically bad year for injuries yes it matters...

I agree with what these guys are saying and I feel we will improve as a team. But we won’t win the division. We’ll be a better team than last year but the Eagles and Commanders are too far away from us to catch. I think I said this after the draft was done in thread. If it was a foot race the Eagles and Commanders had a 50 yard lead on us. After the draft they have a 25 yard lead on us. We’ve closed the gap but I’m expecting us to be a better team than last year but still finish 3rd in the division. But it’s still possible to slip on as a WC being 3rd in the division.

Kinda agree with them, tho, on WAS. I don't pretend to have studied their off-season, but strictly in terms of 2024, I think their record severely over-represented how good they were. There may be some regression there.

mountaineer--- if we get a few breaks here and there, is it possible we could get to 11 wins and sneak into the tournament? Let me know, as you are a real student of this team. Thank you pal.
You seem to be an expert. Explain exactly how we get to 11 wins. You can even go into how we improve on our playoff run of 2-5 with your boy Dak in charge. Thank ya pal.

how am I an expert? If you read what I wrote, it says: if we get a few breaks here and there, is it possible we could get to 11 wins

NOTE: it doesn't say it IS possible. It says IS it possible.
