The other day, one prominent GM in the league told me why he thought the Rams would move way up to pick a quarterback. He said they can’t compete in the NFC West (with Russell Wilson and Carson Palmer in place in Seattle and Arizona, respectively) without getting a quarterback. This was the text-message from this GM Thursday morning, upon hearing of the deal:

“Just like we said … Bravo, Rams.”

The Rams gave up a Payton Manning-level trade package to get an Eli Manning-level QB prospect. Lets wait and see if anyone says Bravo at the end of this story.

If they draft Goff then I might agree but Wentz is the real deal.

He'll be a top NFL QB within 5 years.

Lol

Actually, Eli was rated way higher when he was coming out than any of these guys

Does t mean one or both won't be good (or flop) though

Unless they go Goff, in which case they gave up RGIII's package to get Matt Ryan.

The best player in the NFL Draft fell out of the top-5 last year (Leonard Williams). And it could happen again this year with Laremy Tunsil.

Let's just draft Tunsil and have Romo run the Wildcat.

Honestly, I say screw it. Draft the tackle. Grab the highest rated DL in two, and grab a running back like Perkins and/or WR.

Then, the project QB we draft will have literally everything they need when they take over

Everything he needs except NFL franchise QB talent..............

To a much lesser degree, the two players who’d been in play at No. 1 for Tennessee, Tunsil and cornerback Jalen Ramsey of Florida State, now muck up the very top of the draft. One or both of them could be in play beyond the top two picks—and before this trade, no one could have said that.

If both the quarterbacks are taken, the Cowboys can either pick the best players at their position of the non-quarterbacks or can call Tennessee to see if they're still interested in Tunsil.

They'd have to give up almost everything they just traded for. Not sure they would do that.

They gave up a ton. Part of it is the new city, etc.

But really, maybe some of us at CBZ don't think the same, but just about any GM would be thrilled if they drafted a QB that ended up as good as Ryan.
Ryan, rightly or wrongly, is pretty unanimously considered a legit franchise QB.

btw, he was ranked much higher than either of these guys coming out. If Goff or Wentz end up as good as he is, it'll actually surprise me. One reason why I wasn't up for selling the farm for them.

They were gonna take Tunsil anyway.

Now they'd get the same player, PLUS still keep the 2017 1st and 3rd, plus an extra 3rd this year
pretty sweet , really

They'll know in a year or so if the risk was worth it. Whiff, and it's an ugly first 5 years in LA for them.

I like Goff. And I'd be thrilled with a player like Matt Ryan if that were the best option available to me. We've been spoiled for so long here with Tony, and it's a shame that we haven't been able to give him a passable defense in recent years.

So if the Titans offered pick 15 and all 3 of their second round picks for pick 4, would you do it?

I don't have a copy of the trade chart with me, so I don't know how the points work out for this.

Time will tell if they got a good or great QB. But I suspect they would settle for the results the Giants got out of Eli. It's all about the super bowl. As for the price, that's the market and unless we plan on a 2 win season we will be doing the same or more in a couple years to get a QB
