My question to the legion of fans of Air America Cowboys, where the supreme truth says 'howdy' to you every day:

If Vandy blows an "easy" one this Thursday, would you say Parcells will be making phone calls Thursday night or have some kickers "visit" the ranch for tryouts on Friday or Saturday?

I think that's very possible - maybe likely.

First of all we are stuck with him because he makes too much money :banghead:

Second it would be too hard to find a replacement on a short week

If he messes up Thursday I can see Parcells bringing in some kickers for a tryout.

Yes I think if he is missing FG this upcoming game I would expect to see Dallas invite some kickers in for a try out. I don't know if they will find anyone but you won't know unless you bring people in.

Vandy kind of got a free ride when Vinateri missed two kicks against his former team in NE and they won.

Chances are he would but I'm not sure what he would find. If nothing else it would send a message. Maybe the release of Suisham has Vandy a bit too comfortable.

Still doubt any kicker move happens.

I think Jerry would gladly eat the money if they could find a kicker who the team had trust in. I do agree this is not an option right now but depending on what happens Thursday I think it is quite possible.

Yeah but then he could make his kicks in Tampa game and leave us with a false sense of security.

I gotta say.... Vandy put a damper on our Victory Sunday. I am seriously concerned.

True but if he starts making his kicks then I think you stay him, if he continues to struggle I think there are few option left but to go out and hold tryouts.

Who is sitting out there as a street FA who is better than Vandy? Come on...if it was that easy to find kickers, would have never signed Vandy. The last few years have shown that you can't just dial up a kicker.

And yet we have signed guys off the street who have come in at least short term and did a good job. Who is better than Vandy right now? I'd say a heck of lot of guys are as good as Vandy right now.

THAT IS THE POINT! RIGHT NOW VANDY IS AMONG THE VERY AVERAGE.
Parcells is clearly vexed.

Keep in mind that the Lin Elliott's, Richie Cunninghams and Mark Bonoils we've had really only had a few fluke good years and they had very short careers because they couldn't sustain any quality over the long haul. Yes, they were as good as Vandy is right now, but as the last few years have proven you are playing with fire if you expect to always pull someone out of the woodwork. Vanderjagt was an attempt to close the revloving door, and he still "could" be.

Who knows, maybe it's just an uncharacteristically bad year for him. Vinatieri dropped from 90% in 2002 to 73.5% in 2003, then popped back up to 93% in 2004. David Akers had 5 straight years of over 80% but dropped to 72% in 2005.

All kickers, even the best, have off years. Accordingly, another factor at work is whether we want to risk losing a player that could be a solution to our kicking woes for several more years by bringing in a temporary guy.

Let just say at this stage I don't think Vandy will be back next year and if the team is lacking confidence in him right now then I think his leash is getting much shorter to finish this year. I'm not saying guys like Cundiff are long term solution but if Dallas can find a player who can make his kicks then I don't really care if he is a house hold name or not.

I wouldn't yet say Vandy wont be back next year, but I will say he has to come on strong to keep his job next year. If he ends up around 70% on the season I would agree that he will be looking for work or at least find he has some real competition in training camp next year.

If he comes on strong and starts hitting his kicks then we don't have a problem but he has not looked very good even hitting his extra points which he has been pushing to the right. We sacrifice yardage on kickoffs because he suppose to be this great accurate kicker and we are not getting the results. Add to this a poor additude and poor work ethic I don't see him around much longer unless a major change starts to take place.
