Monk V. Irvin

Yes, because when we built up first half leads and then just ran the ball in the second half....that didn't take away from Irvin at all.

Not one bit.

thats a valid point. i'm going to see if i can find a page that breaks down stats by halves to see how it affected irvin. know any good sites?

You too, what do you define as a possession WR?

i guess i'd say one who cant regularly get deep, one who catches short passes and moves the chains but doesnt get alot of deep balls- generally cuz they are too slow.

Nope.

To be honest, I am treading on stuff I barely remember.

I was born in '86. I began watching football in '91. Since my parents weren't football followers, it was up to me to pick a team.

The first game I watched IIRC was the Detroit/Dallas regular season game. I liked Dallas for no particular reason, but rooted for them.

We lost.

A Cowboy fan was born though.

But most of that stuff, I cannot recall well.

No way.

It alluded me.

Seriously; what do you define as a possession reciever? I wasn't joking when I asked you to define it.

A possession receiver is generally a more sure-handed WR that makes tough catches, can take a hit, and continuosly moves the chains. However, they lack the raw speed to attack a defense downfield.

Irvin had decent speed, and was not JUST a posession receiver, however his game revolved around make all the tough catches and getting where he had to get.

OK good, so you pretty much agree on what a possession WR is...

Then explain to me HOW you have different opinions on what Irvin is?

Irvin lacked top end speed, but he was able to get deep. IMO, I would consider him a more balanced WR than a possession WR.

It wasnt that he COULDNT go deep, it's that he DIDNT go deep all that often. What made him so good was he used his size to get wherever he wanted to on the field and get first down after first down. That 10-15 yard curl route he used to run, combined with Aikman's flawless accuracy, was pretty unstoppable during our title runs.

it's funny, how one can be so brilliant on the field, but so dumb off it (Mike Irvin) :)
