Montavius Stanley ????

Stanley has not done much in TC. Parcells put him on the 2nd team today ahead of Pepper for the first time and the offense blew major holes in the middle of the line when he was in there. It wasn't pretty. My opinion: he needs to pick up his play if he wants to see the 53-man roster.

that and some weights ;)

He did not go to a school with a top weight program- unlike ND, Iowa, Miami, etc. So he will need a year of working out to really get his strength up. What they are looking at are his football instincts, quickness, etc. As long as he shows them, he will stay.

Thank you Gentlemen.......If he shows any promise at all I would be willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. As I said earlier...the NT position is not one many rookies can step into right out of College.

Give a season in our strength program and let's see what he can do.

Thanks Grizz......I must say I really enjoy your reports. Thanks again for a job well done....please keep them coming.

Yeah, I was hoping that his football play was akin to the mean 'tude that he had during the post-draft conference call.

To the two statements regarding Glover's contract. I am well aware of what he was scheduled to make. That doesn't justify making yourself significantly worse at an important position when you are trying to make a SuperBowl run.

As of right now, the nose is my second biggest concern behind OL.

I'll say this - in football, your biggest concerns ought not be involved in your lines, or it spells bad news.

how is backup NT an important position? show me a team that invests heavily on their backup NT, and I might be inclined to believe we made a mistake

I've read his play has been mediocre. At this point, it seems he will make the roster based on the shear fact that he is one of only 3 DT physically built to play the 0 gap consistently.

Not that I'm happy about all this, but we knew that this position would be weak as soon as we released Glover (something that still beffudles me).

I wish I could produce the quote that said Glover was seriously outplayed as a nose tackle the latter part of the season, and therefore the desicison to release him was easy. But, I did see it.

I also read that teams were gaining less on the ground w/ Ferg in the lineup, I too can't find that quip

I think Stanley will follow the path Pepper Johnson had last year. He'll make the team, be inactive every week, be locked in the weight room with steaks pushed under the door every couple of hours, and late in the year he might have developed enough to be activated and contribute a little.

Unless he's lazy... That's what would get Parcells to put him on the street.

Sooooooooooooooooooooooooooo.....I guess Ferguson is going to play all downs? Or, perhaps you just think Pepper gives us a better player than glover.

Glover started what, 11 games last season, and those he didn't start he still effectively spelled Ferguson in nickel situations. This team was better with Glover at dt/nt than without him, considering our next best option is johnson.

This is hardly even debatable.

yes, Glover started 11 games last year, and we were giving up 4.2 yards a carry, Thomas isn't a better player than Glover, but he brings exactly the type of player we lose, a penetrator, and I don't think duplicating Glover's 3 sacks last year is going to be that big of a task

So you guys would pay a 5-7 million bonus to a backup????

 you are right ... this is hardly even debatable

Quote or not, anyone watching the games saw that was true. In fact, Glover moved over to DE at one point. And we are kind stocked over there right now.

Glover just didn't fit this defense. Smart teams get rid of vets who don't fit the system.

not only that, but vets who don't fit the system and are scheduled to make 6 mil

the move was best for both parties involved, we save money that could be used for 2 players for depth, and Glover starts in a system that fits his qualification

He didn't sound "mean" in that call to me. He sounded like a defensive version of Nate Newton.

We can only hope he follows Nate's path.

I'm down to only 40 LBs of stash.

I need to know where to score another 100.
