Monte Kiffin Interview

After the firing of Rob Ryan I thought we would loose the passion, boy was I wrong.

Haha great interview really like able guy.

"how much would you like to see Anthony spencer back?"

"I don't think that's for me to addresss...I think somebody might have told me that before I came here...I got coached up now too"

I would to love to play for him! I love his blue collar attitude.

This is not something like a jab, or hidden meaning. I am genuinely ignorant to it and want to know.

Is the darkness toward the tip of his nose something like him being sick, bruised, or is that something that happens to older guys?

It could be anything but I would guess it is from being in the sun for years.

Love how honest he was overall. Going through our personel and how guys fit... he said we need that 3-technique. Telling. He either sees Ratliff as a 1-tech, doesn't think he's all that great, or doesn't think he'll be here.

Listening to the interview, I'm surprised he didn't finish with "and were gonna do it baby." Sounded like Switzer.

Interesting..too bad he didn't go into more detail about that..

I took it as we want him, but we don't want to be too loud about it and give his agent any extra leverage.

I like the part where he said "3-4, 4-3 it doesn't matter...there's 11 guys out on the field last time I checked."

He then went on about his 3 things that he wanted from the players, play hard, play fast, and play as a team.

I'm not sure what I was expecting from Kiffin's interview but he does carry himself pretty well with the media.

After watching this -- thank god he got Marinelli to come in. I'm afraid this guy might fall asleep during the game.

I def think he is referring to Ratliff when he talks about the importance of the 1-tech.

On the 3-tech: "it's a very important position and well figure that out"

So some doubt that we have a clear cut 3 tech

Comparison to seattle:

"they do play some single high safety...they have some good corners that can bump...They play cover two we play cover two"

Interesting that he's talking mostly secondary here...and implies there could be a lot of single high safety looks. Seattle plays a 43 34 hybrid up front...It seems he's mostly referring to their secondary though in regards to what the scheme will look like.

"we have some outside backers that played in the 34 that have a chance to put their hand down"

Notice the plural. Definitely means he thinks spencer will be our starting left end.

"I think we have a chance to have our nose tackle...a defensive tackle...our two tackles inside"

Seems very satisfied with Ratliff and someone else (not sure who) filling in the 1-tech.

"And it isn't just about the 3 technique you better have a darn good...cause when you go to 3rd down and you have a green call on 3rd down you don't have two under tackles you have two defensive tackles lined up On 2 guards and two guys on two offensive tackles and those for guys need to get after it"

Again emphasizing that 3 tech isn't all that important, implying he does not see a clear cut 3 tech on our roster. My guess at this is that he sees Ratliff-hatcher as good third down tackles but we need a 3 technique for the base.

"and our linebacker core we have two really good linebackers...hopefully there are some others there too that can fit in Cause we need 3 linebackers in a 43 defense"

Does not see anyone as a clear cut solb but hopes someone currently on the roster will emerge.

Sounds like we will be after a 3 tech, spencer will stay at sde, and we hope to fill solb with someone on the roster but it's not clear who right now.

Anyone think this guy seems like he may be a good head coach? He seems to get it.

The guy carries himself like a head coach.

Agreed! Marinelli was the key hire and will keep things flowing on defense.

I loved it. As he said 3-4/ 4-3 means nothing you got 11 men on the defense, play hard, play smart and play fast. Everyone is caught up in the formation but defense as a whole if they go out and play hard, smart and fast you will get the results. Yes we have some guys who are so called jags on defense but we also have some guys with very good talent. Go out there play as a team and do the 3 things Kiffin mentioned and a defense can have success.
