Moore: What future for Morris Claiborne, Byron Jones looks like with Cowboys

Question: Morris Claiborne, seems to be a great kid but he just can`t cover worth a darn. Holding on one play, feel down on another play, etc. I surely Dallas knows he is not starting material and should be gone at the end of the season, Would you agree ? (Take Carr with him too)

Moore: This one is interesting. The Cowboys didn't exercise their option for a fifth season on Claiborne going into this season, but that doesn't mean they wouldn't want him back at the right price. He's been solid. Now, does he make plays? No. But who in this secondary does? Under you're scenario the Cowboys would have to replace the two corners who started the majority of games for them this season. Now, you can say Orlando Scandrick's return and Bryon Jones' development allows you to do that. But here's another question. Do you like Jones better at safety or corner moving forward? If the answer is safety, I'm not sure you get rid of both Claiborne and Carr. I think there's a good chance Claiborne returns next season...

This secondary is in shambles... Overpaid for Carr. Claiborne has woefully under-achieved. Wilcox and Church are bargain bin safeties and shouldn't be starting-- but since the Roy Williams debacle, we simply don't view safety as a position worth investing money in.

Jones looks great, and Scandrick is a solid starter-- but we either need to invest and upgrade the position through the draft or FA, or bring in a coach and a scheme that can actually develop these guys so they make plays. It's mind blowing how bad this defense is at forcing turnovers.

Claiborne hasn't been great, but he's much improved over where he was prior to this season. Will he continue to get better or is he at the top of his game? If the former, you might hang onto him and develop him. If the latter, you have to let him go. I think we all agree that Carr is way overpaid. If he were playing for a fair price, I would want to keep him around. He's not a terrible corner, but he ain't no Deion Sanders. It's frustrating that a pretty decent corner is sucking so much salary cap money away when those bucks could be used to strengthen the team in other areas. I'm not sure how the financial system works if you cut him. Does the team take a huge hit that cripples us? Or does it have to pay him something every year for a while, so it's not that bad? If he won't play for a reasonable price, I would want him out of here and replaced via the draft, provided that doesn't financially strap the team. Anyone know the implications of cutting him?

One thing that would be really great would be to get a corner who gets a lot of picks. We've been hurting in that area.

Byron Jones needs to stay at the safety position. Jerry Jones has invested too much into the secondary. It's time to invest in other areas (QB, DT, WR, DE, RT).

Solid cornerbacks can be drafted between rounds three through five.

If Claiborne comes back it needs to be at a reasonable amount, if not he can go. I like the idea of Scandrick and Claiborne starting at the positions with Jones at free safety. Just draft a solid corner and safety in the mid to late rounds of next years draft and sign some affordable average corners in free agency.

Mo is always hurt. He is not really one of the guys you can count on on sundays. Him, lee and now Romo. Sad to say but our best player on offense and defense have been injured alot these past couple of years.

Another aspect of Mo's situation is he may not want to come back. He might just think a change of scenery is what he needs. Dallas will have a lot of money under the cap to spend. I could see them letting both Mo and Carr go, and replace them in the draft/FA.

Mo is gone unless we are the highest bidder. I don't see that happening.

He does need a change of scenery. Somebody will and he may become a serviceable corner in this league for years to come.

I think Mo is gone but if he does walk it's going to be very hard not to keep Carr
Otherwise you have no option but sign a CB which is very expensive it draft one early
The idea of drafting cb's who can start day one is really a pipe dream. Even the top cb's tend to struggle early. CB is one of the toughest positions on the field

I think Mo stays and would be happy to have him back, if it doesn't require breaking the bank. I think he's done a good job, although I can understand why fans are down on him because of his injury.
Be that as it may, you can never have too many corners if you can fit them under the cap and within your budget.
Unless we draft Hargraeves, Ramsey or another corner high, I doubt we're going to get rid of both Carr and Claiborne.

For guys saying you can't re-sign Mo because he's injured......you sign him for the right price. You invested far too much into him to just let him walk for a decent price.

IF you want to use that logic then get rid of Sean Lee. Get rid of Dez. Get rid of Romo. They've all been hurt recently for the past few years.

You get rid of Mo if you don't think he can play and if the price is too high. But I don't see the price as being too high and he seems to be getting better and healthier even if he has missed a game or two this season. That doesn't mean you don't still address the corner position. But you can address the corner position as well as re-sign Mo. Church and Wilcox look far more valuable here if you have them here for depth then if you just boot them off the roster. I'd much rather watch Church or Wilcox come off the bench then I would Heath.

I think the Cowboys should move Collins to RT and put Leary back in at guard. I think the combo of Leary at G and Collins at T is better than what we have now. I now Leary will be a free agent but a deal could be reached.

"Now, does he make plays? No. But who in this secondary does?"

So resign him because he's part of a unit that can't make plays?

Well I think what he's saying is it the unit or is it something else? We deemed Terrence Newman finished years ago and he's managed to stay in this league. Pac-Man Jones has too. We felt Mike Zimmer was a terrible DC and he's having success. I myself am not quite sure its personnel. Claiborne and Carr both had success prior to coming here so what has happened? They forgot how to play football?

Why would you put Collins at right tackle when he's having success as a guard? He's going to be a much better guard than he will a tackle.

I think Claiborne doesn't like it in Dallas. He will leave.

The Cowboys need help at RT, he's played T in college and right now Leary is a better G than Doug Free at T. Collins can be just as successful at T as he's been at G.
I see some of the traits of Larry Allen, good at either position.
