Did any one ever hear the extent of Kellen Moore's injury last year? Most articles I've read are very vague on it. Obviously it was serious enough to put him out all year, but I'm wondering if he will have lingering effects. Hopefully he only be in games for mop-up times, while we're blowing teams out. I'm hoping for a better option than "Mr Pick 6" before the season starts.....

From Broaddus' report last night:

  • Scary moment for Kellen Moore during practice. Damontre Moore drove Byron Bell straight back into Moore’s feet as he was delivering the ball to the outside right. If Moore didn’t feel what was happening and adjusted his feet there was a really good chance that he was going to get stepped on again -- which ended his season last year.

Sounds like he has a little bit of a problem managing his footwork well enough to avoid someone being walked right back into him.

In a way, Moore going down last year was a blessing. Had that not happened, there would be no rush to push Prescott up thanks to Linehan's doglike devotion to him.

He is a roadblock to getting a good reserve QB in here. People throw around the "progress stopper" label a lot, but he is truly the epitome of that.

Pray for Prescott staying healthy, that is all I can say.

I hope Damantre is that good and Bell is not that bad.

I think Moore is just fine as a backup. Two years ago was a QB fiasco and to judge him based upon that season is wrong. Some will find this insulting, but the coaches know more than internet posters do. If they are comfortable with him, so am I.

You make a great point.

I mean, this very same staff thought Matt Cassel and Brandon Weeden were "just fine" as backups too.

Thank you for setting all the wannabe coach internet posters straight.

Actually it sounds like he managed his footwork in this situation to avoid someone being walked right back into him. So basically what you said only the exact opposite.

And almost every team in the NFL who didn't just draft a young qb high is praying their starter stays healthy. There aren't even 32 good quarterbacks yet alone a bunch of great backups.

If your qb goes down 9/10 times your season is shot. Dak is the 1/10 situation.

Name the teams with a good backup.

Ready, go! That didn't take long.

And name the teams that do and there you go, those are the teams that can survive more than a game or two absence from their starter to make a post season.

Moore quite simply should be a third stringer or better yet, on the coaching staff as an intern or something.

And let's be very clear here. Just because QBs are scarce is no excuse for Kellen Moore.

You cannot have steak on every plate and blah blah blah. I get it. But there is no excuse for what is on ours.

Only a handful of teams like Detroit and Seattle can claim they have worse in terms of talent.

Jerry found a way to stash Romo away without counting on the roster. To the best of my knowledge, Romo still hasn't filed NFL retirement paperwork despite the release that was ranted to him by the Cowboys. Kellen Moore is the in-game backup QB so long as Dak is our starter. He's a functional backup that the Cowboys will never count on to be a week to week starter if Dak misses multiple games.

And Romo is just going to dash out of the booth, in playing shape and ready to save the day?

If that is really what the plan is and that crafty Jerry Jones found a way to stash him without paying him or chewing up a roster spot, that is a foolish plan.
