More futile: Eagles drafting WRs or Cowboys drafting OL

The Cowboys for what seems a long time have not drafted OL very well. The Eagles are just as inept at producing WRs.

Someone in the booth last night said the Eagles have the deepest receiving corps in the league. I had to stop and think about that for a moment.

Other than Jackson, I can not think of a legit NFL WR they have drafted under Reid. And who knows if Jackson will have a long NFL career.

When talking about mediocre talent all around the board, then yes.

They seem to be doing just fine with the WR's they've drafted, they were in the Superbowl just a few years ago and they shy away from overpaying for WR's.

We've done neither when it comes to linemen.

Maybe they meant "deep" as in modern art deep. So deep that only a select few can truly comprehend it.

TO was part of their run to the SB. Which WR have they drafted you would want on this team? Not counting Jackson who I admit may turn out to be legit.

The signing of TO would argue against both your Philly points.

Cowboys are more futile at drafting OL. The last hit they had was in 2002 with Gurode and it took ages for him to develop.

The Eagles are fresh off of a hitting on a potential stud in DeSean Jackson. And Maclin doesn't look awful for a WR who got into camp late.

Us with OL I'd think. Mainly because it looks like they may have hit on Jackson and Maclin could also turn out pretty good in the end as well. If that happens that's 2 WR's in recent memory and last OL guy we drafted that I remember starting, and being a real positive for use, is Andre.

Now that's assuming you meant starting quality players who have good careers. We've actually drafted several servicable O-Linemen that did start, or play, for us and in some cases others quite effectively.

What about pro bowls? The Cowboys have drafted more OL that went to the pro bowl.

I'd say Flozell and Andre are decent feathers in cap for the Cowboys. But other than them, who else?

This guy didn't exactly "wow" me last night, but it's early.

The Eagles had Tra Thomas (drafted same year as Flo, but earlier) and Shawn Andrews as Pro Bowlers within the time period you're talking about. Though Thomas and Andrews were both first round picks and should've by all rights been Pro Bowlers.

They are not WRs. Jackson had a good rookie season but I would wait untill he has done it for 3-4 years before I would call him a hit. But clearly we have trouble drafting OL and they have had trouble drafting WR. Maybe we ought to work a deal with them: next draft we pick WR for them and they pick OL for us.

i think the comparison is cowboys OL to eagles WRs. so in that case, viman is right, we have more probowlers on the OL than the eagles at WR. Jackson looks legit, although also like he could be broken in half on any single play. we have been pretty horrible drafting OL though. flozell was drafted over 10 years ago and gurode 9 years ago.

I was impressed with Desean Jackson last night, he flat out beat two good coverage men down the middle and made a great catch look easy. I am not sure who we have that can run with him. Hope we are able to knock him down at the line of scrimmage alot and he tires out. Maclin looked like a rookie but my goodness he has some speed..
Not ready to throw out any accolades for our OL at this time, will leave it at we will see.

Good point, but Reggie Brown isn't that terrible. We've drafted 8 linemen since Gurode though, and not one has stuck so far. Jury is still out on Free but I'm pulling for him.

I think part of the problem is that neither us, nor they, have invested a heck of a lot at those positions to begin with. They have recently invested more in WR and so far, the results have been promising.

But what we pay our guys makes it improbable they will see much competition for their jobs.

The Cowboys are futile at both in recent years. :laugh2:

I think it's because the Cowboys don't address the positions with high enough picks. Look at the last hit WR that the Cowboys took (Antonio Bryant...not a hit for the Cowboys, but a hit all the same), he was picked in the 2nd round. Every WR since has been picked in the 4th or later and some were QBs that they've tried to convert.

On the OL front, the last two hits were Flozell Adams and Andre Gurode, who were both 2nd round picks. Now they did miss with Jacob Rogers in 2004 in the 2nd round, but they've haven't really hit on anyone below round two in recent years.
