More futile: Eagles drafting WRs or Cowboys drafting OL

The Cowboys are futile at both in recent years. :laugh2:

I think it's because the Cowboys don't address the positions with high enough picks. Look at the last hit WR that the Cowboys took (Antonio Bryant...not a hit for the Cowboys, but a hit all the same), he was picked in the 2nd round. Every WR since has been picked in the 4th or later and some were QBs that they've tried to convert.

On the OL front, the last two hits were Flozell Adams and Andre Gurode, who were both 2nd round picks. Now they did miss with Jacob Rogers in 2004 in the 2nd round, but they've haven't really hit on anyone below round two in recent years.

Well we haven't even tried to draft WR's really. The highest WR's we've taken recently are Stanback and Skyler Green, like you said. If we spent high picks on either WR or OL, we'd probably have a better shot at getting a player.

What about pro bowls? The Cowboys have drafted more OL that went to the pro bowl.

I'd say Flozell and Andre are decent feathers in cap for the Cowboys. But other than them, who else?

I think our starting front is a good one with Adams, Kosier, Gurode, Davis and Columbo. I do have concerns with depth however I do like the fact that entering his 3rd season Free has looked good in camp hopefully he will keep progressing and I think Holland is capable of giving us good backup help. That still leaving us a bit on the thin side.

Which three-time Pro Bowl receiver have the Eagles drafted this decade?

I dunno, I think he'll eventually be an upgrade over Buckhalter.

If he's an upgrade over Buck, he'll be a dang good player. Buck always came off as a stud to me, he just had the obvious health issues.

They only had 1 starting lineman playing so keep that in mind.

I couldn't see the deep Oline Matt Mosely kept raving about for the Eagles

AJ Feely was running for his life against the Colt's 2nd team

The Cowboys for what seems a long time have not drafted OL very well. The Eagles are just as inept at producing WRs.

it's no contest, Dallas is the worst at drafting and developing offensive linemen by far

They seem to be doing just fine with the WR's they've drafted, they were in the Superbowl just a few years ago and they shy away from overpaying for WR's.

We've done neither when it comes to linemen.

Basically they had nothing beyond adequate other than TO.

We did draft Adams and Gurode, and Colombo we got for the league minimum his first couple of seasons. Kosier certainly isnt a break the bank guy. The only guy we went out and got and paid big dollars for is Davis, and he's obviously been worth it.

I'd have to definitely say the Cowboys drafting OLmen, unfortunately. Although Mrs. Peterson probably still disagrees...

I was impressed with Desean Jackson last night, he flat out beat two good coverage men down the middle and made a great catch look easy.

Are you talking about that TD? Werent both those guys back there in coverage backups?

I am not sure who we have that can run with him.

Our top 3 CB's all can run with him.

Maclin looked like a rookie but my goodness he has some speed..

so did Ed Hervey and Randall Williams

Yep...Gurode and Adams are certainly God-awful. I cant believe either of them even made an NFL roster.

They are not WRs. Jackson had a good rookie season but I would wait untill he has done it for 3-4 years before I would call him a hit. But clearly we have trouble drafting OL and they have had trouble drafting WR. Maybe we ought to work a deal with them: next draft we pick WR for them and they pick OL for us.

D. Jackson is the real deal and is only going to get better.

you must have not seen D. Jackson or B. Gibson play yet.

Who is B. Gibson?

All I know is that Dallas will not be ruing the loss of Amendola. He still looks small and slow, but if they want him back he will be available to sign in a couple of weeks.

Boy, talk about comparing bad and worse!

The Cowboys have been lousy at drafting linemen over the last several years, there's not doubting that.

That's why guys like Adams and Gurode basically name their price in negotiations and the Cowboys have to pay it.

The Eagles were probably worse before the Jackson pick last season. He looks like a steal. Before that they had wasted high draft picks on bums like Fred-Ex, at least the Cowboys didn't invest a 1st round pick on their busts.

And Maclin looks like he may be a good one, but it's too early to say.

In the Cowboys' defense, Free looks good so far so they may have hit on a linemen this decade.

Let's hope!

But I think the team has to make a sincere, concerted draft investment in the offensive line over the next several years - take a cue from the Packers.
