Look into my eyes and ask the question again.

If I am Jerry I am waiting until we see how this season goes. This is the best team on paper we have had in years, and if Dak fails to captain the ship how on earth can we continue to let him lead? There should be 245 qb's available in free agency in the off season that can mentro Lance for another year and see what, if anything, we have. This franchise cannot continue to move forward without our QB being capable. So far in 3 games.....well you know. Problem is how we eat that mammoth 1 year left on his contract thingy next season
Don't see how we can. IMO, there appears to be only 2 choices, cut him or extend him. Paying him 59 mill is definitely not the answer.

Of course you extend Dak. I would think a nice long 10 year fully guaranteed ($50 mil/year) should do it. He’s got the fourth most wins since 2016 (only behind Brady, Rodgers, and Mahomes). He has TWO more than Kirk Cousins and NINE more than Goff. His total QBR was top five in 2016, 2017, and 2019 so he’s been a top five QB basically half his career (I don’t want to talk about the other years). He’s thrown for the 8th most TD passes since 2016 (3 more than Derek Carr and 9 more than Goff—he’s only 45 TDs less than Kirk Cousins in 15 less games which he could easily throw for had he played). He’s also ranked in the top ten QB’s by most media people which means he’s a top ten player and correlates to postseason success from a QB perspective. He’s a high character guy that does not show up drunk to games. He remembers to wear the correct uniform EVERY SINGLE game. I rest my case.

You cannot find QB’s in the draft that can start in this league unless the team gets lucky. All the QB’s drafted high that fail had fantastic running games and offensive lines and hall of fame coaching (that’s how you know that drafting QB’s in the draft is a crapshoot-every one of those QB’s were on awesome teams and held their teams back). Only Dak had to suffer through the inept Garrett seasons with no running game and zero defense. He’s had to pull this wreck of a team on his own for years and years.

Brock Purdy is just a gem drafted late. It has nothing to do with the rest of that team. He’s just really good. When you have a top ten QB that has a team that can get into the playoffs—-I mean that drags his terrible team into the playoffs pretty routinely—-you pay them the going rate like Minnesota does with Cousins (till their legs fall off).
As much as I love the fandom, the greatest playoff stat Dak has is 11 straight completions. Dak has a 2-4 record in the post season, which is 2nd worst in the last 10 post seasons next to Alex Smith. His playoff wins have been against a 10-6 Seahawks team, and an 8-9 Bucs. With all the glory of his regular season stats, we now have 8 years worth of games to see he is not the guy unless the Super Bowl is awarded after Game 17. No need to discuss his campaign last year, or his not so good start to this year. Needless to say he is regressing, and what confidence do we have the next 3 games will change? Andddd..all this comes with being awarded a boat load of weapons on both sides of the ball. If character accounted for 7-10 pts a game then sure, he'd be a keeper.

Lastly, this isn't about finding a guy in the draft and expect him to win from Day 1. This is about taking your QB in the 4th round, and after 8 years of failure still thinking he is the answer. If Dak is the answer to our future at QB, I'd love to know what the question is

This game will have no effect on Dak's future. None. Zero. Zilch. He threw an INT late in the game when the game was a long shot.

This was a team loss, including the coaches. Let's hope the 3 offensive linemen can play next week after getting this week off. It looked to me like Tyron was stalking the sidelines like he could play, and wanted to play. So clearly they held him out thinking they didn't need him. I have a feeling Martin could have played too. The Cowboys have always been overly cautious when it comes to injuries. Yesterday that may have cost them a game.
All 3 of our linemen that were out were walking around on the sidelines the whole game...with leg injuries.

I carried on hope for Dak for many years, but 2-3 years ago I realized that this is what he is: An inconsistent QB who doesn't read the D quickly enough and is prone to really bad picks. Inconsistent QB's do not win super bowls.

Thought my post was hemorrhaging satire. I will do better.

They can’t take the cap hit and he is not worth another huge contract. Let him play out the contract and move on while drafting a QB or two along the way to develop.

But, Jerry will extend him then celebrate over a bottle of JW Blue……

Based on his present 2024 cap hit alone, an extension is a foregone conclusion.

Hmmmmm

I would say extension but I really do wonder if they are considering he might not be the answer. If this season is another bust, Jerry has an interesting dilemma on his hands. Does he blame McCarthy? Does he blame Dak? Both?

To me, if this season fizzles out like the others, I'd blow up the offense completely. That means Dak bye bye, McCarthy back to retirement.
You know I am the biggest Dak supporter there is....but I am starting to think they are leaving there options open.

They didn't get the extension done, that is a big sign. Seemed like they gave up on it and then went and grabbed Trey Lance.

If Dak gets hurt, plays badly, or is the reason we lose in the playoffs, I expect they will explore getting out of his deal/trade/turning the heat up with the backup qb.

It is in his court.

Dak probably wants to be paid among the highest QBs, with an average salary of over 50 million per year and if they have any brain cells they are telling him no.

I believe they wanna see how the season goes before a extension. I think they discussed the possibility of taking the cap hit before the season started. But who knows

I just don’t know why they traded for Lance, in my opinion, it’s unlikely he’ll see the field
