More Mayock: Cowboys did well in Lions trade for Roy Williams

Mike Mayock, draft expert for the NFL Network, held a conference call with media from around the country today and here is Part Two of the highlights:
--- A writer from Dallas asked Mayock if, looking back, the Cowboys' trade with Detroit was a good one. The Lions got a first- and third-round pick in exchange for receiver Roy Williams. The Lions now have the Cowboys' 20th overall pick.
"Roy Williams is a pretty good football player,'' Mayock said. "To think you're going to get a guy who can be as productive as him (at No. 20), that's a little bit of a leap of faith. (Michael) Crabtree and (Jeremy) Maclin are going to be gone. (Darrius) Heyward-Bay is probably gone, too. Percy Harvin maybe, but he reminds me more of Reggie Bush than a traditional receiver.
"That's the long way of saying I think they're pretty good with Roy Williams.''
--- The Lions are going to be looking for guards in this draft but Mayock said the overall group is "poor compared to the last few years.'' Mayock does like the center position and said some of those guys could be moved to guard.
--- Mayock said he expects Mississippi tackle Michael Oher to go in the top 15 picks. He said Oher has all the physical tools to be a top 10 pick, but that his play is too inconsistent from snap to snap.
--- Mayock is very high on Oklahoma State tight end Brandon Pettigrew. "He won't run 4.6 - a lot of coaches want him to run slow so he'll slide. He should go 15th to 20th. He's a good blocker and catches the ball well but he doesn't have explosive speed.''
Mayock also said that Southern Mississippi tight end Shawn Nelson has made a big impression: "At the Senior Bowl, he was as good as anybody. He knocked (Rey) Maualuga on his butt in a couple of drills. He's a willing blocker, but not a great blocker. He has innate toughness.''
--- On the 40-yard dash times for defensive backs, Mayock thinks people put too much emphasis on them. Part of the problem, he says, is that the players start from a three-point stance so it's more of a track skill than a football one.
"How often does a cornerback go into a three-point stance?'' Mayock said. "If a guy runs a 4.6 and then learns how to run out of the blocks and runs a 4.48, is he really any faster as a football player?
"I love the competition of the combine but sometimes where people get burned is when they fall in love with speed and times.''
--- Someone asked Mayock about Seattle's pick at No. 4 and he mentioned offensive tackles and possibly Crabtree, adding "It's too early for B.J. Raji.''
--- About West Virginia quarterback Pat White, Mayock said, "He's one of my favorite guys in the draft. He has the 'it' factor. I don't care how big he is or how accurate he is, but I want him on my team. To me, he's the best Wildcat quarterback in the league right now - he's better than anybody (currently) in the league. As long as he buys into the 'play slot and return punts and do whatever I have to do' ... if he does, he's a second-round guy. I don't know if people have him that high.''
--- About Iowa running back Shonn Greene: " He's got to win the interview (at the combine). I'm really not concerned with him on the field, but there are a bunch of off-field issues he has to deal with. I think he'll be fortunate to slip into the second round - I have five running backs rated ahead of him.''
