More on Rod Marinelli to TB

Dallas > Tampa Bay

Yeah it just doesn't make sense for him to go to TB when he could be out of job in 1 season. That coaching staff has a lot of work to do to get that team to a competitive level and I don't think it happens in a year.

I would like to see Marinelli stay.

But, I can see if Jerry doesn't want to sign him to a giant contract given his age.

Personally, if I'm Jerry I would look to re-sign Marinelli and try to give him a legitimately fair offer.

If Marinelli doesn't like the offer, then we move on. If he doesn't want to listen to the offer as he's dead set on going to Tampa, then I think Marinelli is a terrible negotiator.

I think PFT did Marinelli no favors by posting sources told him he will be the next DC. Since TB already has a DC. I think that would clearly mean that there was communication and thats tampering.

Jerry has confirmed by recent actions that there is no salary cap on coaches. He also has been apparently learning that you can't mortgage your players' cap for now, then ruin the future.

Therefore, the desire to stay the course with the staff is on him and his bank account; I'd bet he wins.

I know there's not a salary cap on coaches.

But, as a business man I don't expect Jerry to pay Marinelli a ridiculous salary just for the sake of doing so.

I expect a fair offer based on what the other D-Coordinators in the league are making. Unless Marinelli absolutely hates coaching here, I would expect him to listen to the offer because he has nothing to lose. If he doesn't like the offer, he can always go to Tampa anyway.

The Perez Hilton of the NFL making up stuff again...big surprise.

Its very difficult to have a top tier offense and defense in today's NFL.

The Tampa 2 is a "bend-but-don't break" type defense. It masked alot of your lack of personnel talent on that side of the ball.

I think you have a couple years before Romo is too old and you have to pay Martin and Frederick big money on the offensive side of the ball.

Re-sign Dez at whatever cost. Murray is expendable. Focus on getting some playmakers on the defensive side of the ball on the DL for next year and Dallas will be very difficult to beat.

Actually Gil Arcia who covers the bucs is the one who first broke this. PFT got wind of this and added the word "source" lol. But i think theres some fire to this story.

Yes, I know that you know.

While many fans are already contemplating next year, and at least one new thread stating that Jerry should "break the bank", I would simply counter with using any perceived excess on the staff, rather than the roster, so as to preserve appropriate caponomics and not mortgage the future.

They will miss him as a motivator. The D never quit, unlike the previous year. Although it didn't necessarily reflect in the stats, the D was a hustling overachieving bunch. You will miss that.

I can reason with this. You make a solid point.

There's got to be something to it, at least. That's not saying it's a foregone conclusion. That said, that Arcia is sort of all over the place with his 'reporting' of what could be going on. Whatever his 'source,' it doesn't appear to have any specifics, including anything definite on the provisions of Marinelli's contract with Dallas.

Dallas > Tampa Bay

I was thinking the same thing.

Why would Marinelli leave this team for a terrible Tampa Bay team who will probably not compete for a year or two.

Plus Hostile (who has inside information) was stating that if Garrett leaves then Marinelli would leave.

Well, let's see how it all plays out first. We're talking about one Florio report at this point, right?

the comments from BB the last few months are from whispers he's hearing in VR. i'm sure there is something to it.

Marinelli left Chicago for a very bad Dallas defense. He came to dallas because of kiffin. Hes all about loyalty to his friend. Kiffins contract is up too.

Could this be a negotiating tactic from Rod's camp to leavarge more money from Jerry?

There's obviously something to it, but that doesn't mean it's a foregone conclusion. If Sham's saying hold-horses, I'd say it's probably not decided yet.
I have a hard time separating what Broaddus knows from what he thinks he knows. He's been pretty consistent that he doesn't have inside info on the subject, but that obviously doesn't mean that's necessarily the case. I've just been skeptical of the report all along because it's not the kind of move you make just because you're 'loyal.' A loyal guy is going to do what's best for his family, and the kind of guy worth being loyal to is not going to ask you to give up a great thing for something less in Tampa, anyway.

But there's nothing for it but to wait and see. If he leaves, we've got to try to upgrade that spot somehow, and keep rolling.

Until I hear it from someone other than the National Enquirer of the NFL, I am assuming he is staying.
