Dunham & Miller just said that the new rankings are out and Dallas has jumped over Washington as the most valuable NFL franchise. Their value is 1.5 billion dollars. Five times what Jerry paid for the team.

The top five teams are all worth over a billion. They are:

Dallas
Washington
New England
Houston
Philadelphia

NEW YORK — The Dallas Cowboys wrested the title of the NFL’s most valuable franchise from the rival Commanders, knocking Washington off the top of the list for the first time in eight years, according to Forbes magazine’s annual survey.

Thanks to a new $1 billion stadium set to open in 2009, the Cowboys’ value increased by 28 percent — by far the largest jump among NFL teams this year — to $1.5 billion. They climbed from third to first in the rankings, leapfrogging the Commanders ($1.467 billion) and the New England Patriots ($1.199 billion).

The new stadium added about $350 million to the Cowboys’ value. Jerry Jones can now boast that he owns the world’s most valuable sports franchise, according to Forbes.

The Houston Texans and the Philadelphia Eagles again round out the top five and remain the only other franchises worth more than $1 billion.

Both New York teams also enjoyed big jumps in the rankings because of a planned stadium. The Giants moved from 15th to eighth with a 9 percent increase to $974 million. The Jets went from 19th to 10th with a 10 percent improvement to $967 million.

Their jointly owned, $1.3 billion facility is scheduled to open in 2010. The stadium added about $50 million to each franchise’s value. That number is smaller than the Cowboys’ because the venue isn’t as far along. Forbes expects that the two teams’ rankings will continue to climb as the stadium nears completion.

The Cleveland Browns were the only franchise whose value decreased. They rank ninth at $969 million, down from $970 million.

How in gods name is houston a top ranked franchise? Good lord

Because they have a great new Stadium and they are selling out their games here. McNair is really a good owner to bad so many of their fans act like beating Dallas was winning a SB (They have you know what envy) :dance2:

Re-post.

They were a billion dollar team, add a billion dollar stadium and are still barely above the Commanders playing in a 10 year old stadium with the worst jumbotrons in the NFL and some view obstructed seats ?

Who does the math for these things ?

The Skins stadium is still newer then at least 2/3 of the stadiums in the NFL. Its also in a high cost of living area which inflates the value of the land there.

Pretty sad that you don't know why.

I do know why.

What I do not know is how a Commander "fan" got over 3600 post on a Cowboys forum.

The stadium isn't added yet, it's still under construction and therefore a cost liability. That's why the math is off. Until it is operational and adding revenue it is factored only as a profit potential. Will that raise value? Sure, but not full value.

Sorry to insert a Real Estate appraisal view into it, but it is nonetheless correct.

I have read a couple of articles that credit the new stadium as being the reason for the increased worth/value of the Cowboys.

I understand the real estate aspect of it. But as you say it is a liability. And I agree it is factored as potentially.

Hell, potentially... The Texans will be the best team in the history of the NFL.

You're missing the point. Let me give you an example.

You're a restaurant owner and you're worth 2 million dollars. So you decide to franchise your restaurant. Immediately you are worth more money because there is a revenue potential factor built in. It is called exponential increase.

So, you are building your new restaurant. Your net worth is figuratively increased, but not to full potential because during construction you are in a debt phase of the investment and no true revenue is increasing. Yet you are STILL worth more. Why? Because of exponential increase.

You see the same principle with regards to the stock market. Rumors abound that XXX company has a new YYY product coming out that will revolutionize the industry. Their stock will rise on expectations, but once it actually is bringing in revenue it rises again.

Once the new stadium is opened and operational the net value will explode.

What a cop-out.

Riddle me this... do you know when and how the Commanders became the most valuable franchise? That's right: when they built a new stadium and added in seats. When they built a new stadium, that's when they went to the top (the Cowboys were still playing in a 40(?) year old stadium at the time).

So don't give me this "its all about the stadium" BS. If the Skins would have stayed at RFK, they never would have been on the top of the list anyhow.

You're preaching to the choir Cobra..... Skins fans can't stand it when the cowboys are "tops" in any category..... that's just the way they are made!:D
