Jul 20, 2008 09:52 PM CDTSmoot falls to ankle injury

The News
The Commanders have been rather busy today, losing two players for the season to injury, then adding a Pro Bowl-caliber defensive end in Jason Taylor via trade, and now we have word that cornerback Fred Smoot has also fallen to injury, according to the Washington Post.
comments_icon.gif
Our View
Smoot sprained his left ankle in the afternoon practice, during an 11-on-11 drill. Coach Jim Zorn said he's hoping Smoot will be out less than a week. They will update his situation later this week, but for now, it sounds like the injury is minor.
Jul 20, 2008 09:47 PM CDTSkins also lose Buzbee for the season

The News
While the move to add Jason Taylor rules the day's headlines, the Commanders have quietly announced defensive end Alex Buzbee was carted off the field with an ankle injury suffered during special-teams practice this afternoon, is done for the season, according to the Associated Press.
comments_icon.gif
Our View
Buzbee ruptured his right Achilles tendon while back-peddling during a punting drill. A first-year player who spent last season on the practice squad, Buzbee is well regarded for his intelligence and work ethic. Had he not fallen, the Skins might have reserved on the trade for Taylor, but with he and Phillip Daniels both lost for the season, the Fins were able to get the deal done.

If they keep falling I am really going to have a good day in Dallas this year when they play the Skins. Don't want to see anyone get hurt but man.....Not a good start for them.

Too bad Taylor is now going to stink it up too, Seems to be what happens to people on that sorry team.

NOT! I wouldn't trade quality players to the Skins. Maybe he isn't a pro bowler, but he is a solid player.

did zorn forget to tell these guys to stretch before practicing?

Possible... I saw reports of how his face is always in the "Coaching for Dummies" book during water breaks....

Why is this FUNNY?

Only Philthy Eagles fans stoop this low when it comes to other teams' injuries.

Come on...we have more class than this.

Good thing you aren't making the moves! It's not all about Spears for a second around player. It's about sending talent to the Commanders who also happen to be a divisional foe!

When I read a title about a Skin going down, I immediately think 'Chris Cooley.'

Then I realized the thread was about injuries.

Agree, I don't like to hear about any player getting hurt & I sure don't like an fan hoping that a player on another team gets hurt. Sometimes when I read ExtremeSkins I get furious. Can't recall when I saw posters on that board hoping to see how soon one of their players knocked a player on another team out for the season. I knew on at least once occasions they hoped either Romo or TO got hurt. Frankly, any fan (including any Cowboy fan) who wants such injuries to occur is a disgrace to his team & should be banned from his board. Of course no Skins' fan gets banned from ExtremeSkins for such statements.

The messed up part about this is Daniels is one of the veterans that is kind of against off season team work outs and is into doing his own thing, verses what the team trainers would like him to do

Daniels is no different from Mark Simoneau-very good work ethics, provides alot of leadership, etc, etc, which is why they end up emerging as coaches' favorites.

However-like with Simoneau, he's just not very good. I agree that team chemistry is very important, but that doesn't mean you have to ignore very good players either.

Really... Commanders are in our division? I would have never guessed.

I was being sarcastic, but seriously, if that deal came up, don't think that JJones wouldn't jump on it wholeheartedly no matter if they are in our division or not.

I guess you haven't seen any Skins games lately.... or realize that they just hired a new... Snyder assistant to play coach?

I guess I really didn't see anyone laughing at the fact that someone twisted their knee wrong, so I don't see the comparison to laughing at someone lying on the ground possibly paralyzed.
