...but I did the research and am going to post it even if you don't care.
Last night was the 707th career regular season game the Cowboys have played. The 45 points scored last night pushed our points scored to 15,750. The 35 points allowed pushed that total to 13,653.
This means we have averaged 22.3 points per game over our History, and have allowed 19.3 points per game.
Our best season scoring per game was 1966 when we averaged 31.8 points per game. Our worst season scoring was 1989 when we averaged 12.8 points per game.
Our best defensive season was 1978 when we allowed 13.0 points per game. Our worst was 1961 when we allowed 31.7 points per game.
Tom Landry's teams scored 9869 points in the 418 games he was our Head Coach. His teams allowed 8130 points. It would take our opponents 6 more years and 2 games to equal what we had scored when he left. Tom Landry's teams averaged 23.6 points per game, and gave up 19.4 points per game.
Jimmy Johnson coached in 80 games and his teams scored 1575 points for a 19.7 points per game average. Opponents in the Jimmy years scored 1483 points for an 18.5 points per game average.
Barry Switzer coached in 64 games and his teams scored 1439 points for a 22.5 points per game average. Opponents in the Barry years scored 1103 points for an average of 17.2 points per game.
Chan Gailey coached in 32 games and his teams scored 733 points for a 22.9 points per game average. Opponents in the Chan years scored 551 points for a 17.2 points per game average.
Dave Campo coached in 48 games and his teams scored 757 points for a 15.8 points per game average. Opponents in the Dave years scored 1028 points for a 21.4 points per game average.
Bill Parcells coached in 64 games and his teams scored 1332 points for a 20.8 points per game average. Opponents in the Bill years scored 1323 points for 20.7 points per game average.
What does all of this mean? Not much really. I was just curious and had time to burn. It further demonstrates to me just how wonderful it was to have Tom Landry here.
