I was curious for any and all Draft Guru's. Last year the Dallas Cowboys moved up to select Morris Claiborne, CB from LSU. Seeing him play last season what's your opinion of him and would you still make that same move if you could repeat the pick ?

Yes, I would. He will be a cornerstone player for years to come, and I view CB as one of the few "premium" positions (LT, pass rusher, QB, WR, CB).

are you sure? what happens if he doesnt adjust to Kiffin's defense where the corners have to tough and physical?

That's the million dollar question. I think he can do it mentally but we'll see about the physical side.

I think he needs to step his game up tremendously. Thought he was nothing more than a JAG in his tackling, coverage and football IQ. I think he was overrated, over evaluated for his play last year. While I'm at it I guess I should get all my thoughts out, ready for this. I think Tyron Smith was also overrated. Quite frequently beat on his assignments. He will improve, not sure about Mo.

Claiborne was extremely physical at LSU, almost overly so. I think he'll be fine.

I think you are being completely ridiculous.

nothing against Mo (who is a 'good' but not great player) but this was a bad trade then and a bad trade now

I personally believe if you trade up in the top 10 to Draft a Player they need to be a Stud and I'm not so sure Mo falls into the Stud Category. I think hes a good Player but not so sure the type of Player for where he was selected. I actually think there will be several guys at the top of this Draft that fall into that same category. I feel looking at the upcoming Draft picking at #18 is not that much different than picking at #10 for the quality of player you get.

Wonder how you feel about Tyron Smith, Mo played better in his rookie season IMO.

IMO, not worth it. The Dallas FO graded him as elite, but I don't think so.

Apples to oranges, of course, but this is an interesting question. Not sure which player I thought had a better rookie campaign, but they were comparable. I think Mo' had a better season for his unit last year than Smith did, with both players playing difficult positions.

Claiborne didn't have the season I'd secretly hoped for after the trade up, but considering his injuries early and his baptism by fire, he really played pretty well overall. And he made a few plays later in the season that gave you a taste for what it might be like down the road.

I think the offseason really helps him as he adds strength and gets his first healthy camp, along with it being his second time around. Really curious to see how we use these press CBs in the new defense.

I also expect Smith to play better in his third year and second at LT. This should be where he starts to establish himself as one of the better players at his position in the league, if he's going to do it at all.

+1. I think Mo is good, don't get me wrong. I just don't think he is elite. I thought JJ Watt would be a scrub, but I was dead wrong.

They are not the only one's grading him as elite coming out of college.

you never trade up into the top 10 of the draft from below the top 10 for anyone other than a QB or a LT if your team does not have them

otherwise what you are giving up is never worth what you are getting

in the same draft (last year) at least 2 CBs were picked after Mo (and even in round 2) who had better years than Mo (you know, the best CB since Deion)

of course that requires the ability to evaluate talent and the self control to not do something just to make headlines on draft day

Claiborne was the consensus top CB in the draft and near-consensus top defensive player in the draft.

When near 100% of the draft world agrees that a player is the best at his position, it is usually a very good indicator.

That was a move where a team is one player away makes. This team wasnt. They would have been miles ahead with Brockers and Wagner. It remains to be seen if Mo is a shutdown corner.

I wish people would stop talking about Brockers and Wagner. You have no idea how draft would have unfolded if we didn't make he trade.

I too confess I really thought JJ Watt wouldn't be anything special. However I'm wrong but in saying this don't be shocked with a good Defensive Line Coach tutoring him that Margus Hunt from SMU turns out similar to JJ Watt. Hes only played Football for 4 years and has maybe better tangibles and athletic ability than Watt.

because he was rated the top CB and we took him no problems with it because we needed help in the Secondary and we made the move, now is he a Great Corner probably not unless he steps his game up a little.
