Morris over McFadden?

My theory is they were being cautious in case Zeke loses the fight this week, not that Morris is necessarily #2.

I agree. They wanted to use Morris as a battering ram against that stout front, while Zeke took his breathers.

I would say because Almo is a more physical runner that can help pound and wear the defense down. I think he finishes runs better than McFadden and that helps against a physical defense like the Giants.

Morris needs more carries to be effective and lacks the speed to get to the edge.

McFadden should be backing Zeke up imo. He is use to coming in and out of the game, he's been doing since college when he shared the backfield with Felix Jones.

I'd agree on all fronts. I'd actually rather see Morris get 20 carries than McFadden, but don't see Morris as an ideal compliment to Zeke.

I think its as simple as they gameplanned for the past couple of weeks for McFadden or Zeke to start and Morris to run certain plays in relief.

Well either way, it will probably be addressed this offseason.....and maybe in a bigger way than we think with the Zeke situation.

We have plenty of picks to get one, and we do have to start addressing the age in our RB and WR groups. Probably will be more of a balance between offense and D this offseason. Can't keep hyping late rounders and UFAs at every single skill position, need some real talent there.

Addressing the age, why? Dez & Beasley are 28, TWill & Butler are 27, Swit is 22, Brown is 21.

Next offseason, they will all be a year older. I was speaking of next year, plus it can take a while for a WR to develop, you wait too late and your stuck with nothing. Our future shouldn't be based on Swit or Brown, at all. Not like we are depending on Ivie for our future on the DL, same goes for Brown, not matter how much he is hyped.

We hype wayyy too many lowly picked guys on offense, but say all those lowly picked guys suck on D, supposedly. Hyping Rico, Brown, Smith, Rush and such on offense while guys like White, Ivie, whatever LB, and such get no love. Overselling offensive guys while the defensive guys have to suck unless they are a high pick. Oldest players on D are of course Lee and OScan....the rest are expendable, those two are 31 and 30 right now in totally different position groups. Dez, TWill (hes 28), and Beasley will all be 29 next year (Butler 28 in 4 months), and they are in the same position group.

We are a young team of course, but it takes alot of grinding to stay that way. With both our backup RBs old and on the last year of their deals, upgrading RB is a given. WR and TE, not a given but should be addressed very soon. QB, who knows, depends on whose available later in the draft. Alot depends on this year but on a long term franchise thing, even if we won the SB we shouldn't be drafting backups. Sure defense will be addressed, but football players have a short shelf life, we should be prepared.

Did Morris have a good camp? All off-season I read DMAC worked with the 1s not Morris

Morris was the worst RB signing since Eddie George. He got nothing.

McFadden is bettter by far, only a year removed from a thousand yard season. He has much better speed to take advantage of the push from the offensive line and he has superior pass catching skills.

Morris has done nothiing for the Cowboys, his results are pedestrian which shouldn't happen with this offensive line.

I was shocked to learn McF was inactive and suspect something else is going on.

Pretty simple really.

Morris had a better camp. McFadden hasn't done anything to be handed that job...if anything Morris is a much more accomplished runner.

I think our most overrated position is our running back depth. I would take some younger guys with fresh legs and upside over a couple declining veterans any day.
 You say that about declining veterans after the previous paragraph practically getting engaged to one? You love you some Morris... until young guy comes along. You fickle hussy you. :D

Just having some fun with you. No offense intended, bro.

I thought it was a bad decision. I'll take McFadden every time over Morris. He can just bring much more to the table with his versatility and he's a better ball carrier with more speed.
Better ball carrier, better receiver and better blocker...I think we will see Dmac as the #2 this week with Morris relegated to #4.

I agree time for Rod Smith to get more reps to see if he can earn the #2 spot

Morris would have been better served, with plays between the tackles, as opposed to running him wide.

Yeah I noticed that too, his good runs in pre-season were between the tackles. Also, it seemed to me (have to go back and watch the tape) that Zeke didn't have enough runs outside, attacking the edge. Just a few of those plays between Morris and Zeke should have been reversed.

Having said that, I want to see more of Smith.

I don't know, but we really need to invest in our RB corps next off-season.

We should have drafted a young guy high this year to make sure we aren't held hostage by the position since our running game is so important to this team.

Morris has already melted after a good start to camp. His legs are dead. They should play Smith some.
I wanna say same thing. Sometimes it looks like he is running with weights tired too his feet. I think Smith ought to be getting more reps
