At least they signed Dak for $60 million a year over 4 years...

‘Learn from your mistakes”….this is Jerry we walking about here….he isn’t capable of doing that.

He'd have to make a mistake in order to acknowledge it. He only acknowledges mistakes two decades later.

I'm good on Osa. This was the first season of his career where he actually showed up past week 12. It just so happens to be a contract year too.
Yup.

solid DT. Has good stats.

Going with the OverTheCap valuations, looking at a 4Y/40M+ contract.

but that first week always has a team over paying.

so top contract could be 4Y/60M+

beyond our budget

As usually when we talk about players salaries Jerry’s illegitimate children start to post. The Cowboys have a little something with Parsons, Osa, Mazi, and Gholston front 4. I don’t see how using free agency and the draft would be better than what we have now. Sign Parsons, Osa, and Gholston now then use draft picks to supplement the rest of the roster. I actually think we have a solid front four foundation and offensive line to build off of. I would draft a war daddy at defensive tackle to rotate with Osa and Mazi in the first couple rounds.

When you want to covet the impact of Osa Whosyourmomma over the last 4 years you you have to rely entirely on PFF grades.

We won't and shouldn't resign him for that much. And even if we did, we should still target a DT in the first three rounds.

Who replaces him with equal or better production?
Given what he produces, that’s not a huge hurdle. Which is not to suggest he’s bad— but you can’t sign everyone and you need to budget accordingly.

I think $20 million is too much for Osa. Like I always say, there probably is one team that will pay him but as much as I like him it should not be the Cowboys paying him that much.

Look at the salaries of the other DTs in the league. Leonard Williams and Javon Hargrave are getting $21.5MM and $21.0MM respectively.

Vita Vea is getting $17.75 million. Ed Oliver $17 million. Christian Barmore $21 million. Jonathan Allen $18 million. Of course it depends on when these guys all signed their deals. But Osa is a good player, not a great player. I would off him a max of $16MM to $18MM and say goodbye if he declines those numbers.

At the same time, Maliek Collins got $11.5 million from the 49ers last year so I don't see Osa signing for less than $15 million. Osa's best years are probably in front of him now.

I like Osa, but people need to remember he’s playing in a contract year. We’ve seen this a hundred times.

It would not shock me to see him overpaid but Cowboys shouldn't pay that much for him.

At the end of the day I like Osa but he fits the Anthony Hitchens, Durance Armstrong, etc. role. A great find in the draft but not so great when you gotta pay him tops in the league.

And it's hard to justify bringing him back at that when we year in and year out complain about the interior. I know he's not the 1 tech but he's still a part of a unit that has issues.

He's been this guy though. He's not doing anything he hasn't done before. I'd go as far as to say he's pretty consistent. The issue is the 20 million a year part if that's what he's seeking.

That seems a little rich for Osa......... I would love to keep him but $10-15M range. IF he is resigned, you can take DT off your board for our 1st round pick. No way Jerry's doing both.....especially with Mazi being a 1st rounder.

Seems about right, just look at the tag numbers for next year. This is why, I think we should move on from him. Solid player, but never will be a star and he is about to be paid like one.

The franchise tag just seems too obvious at this point for OSA. It’s doesn’t kill the cowboys like a longer deal might and he counts a full $23m against the cap so Jerry can cry to the media that he doesn’t have any space to make moves.

Yeah Osa will for sure get something along the lines of 4 years $75M hitting the market as a 26 year old free agent.
Of course Jerry has backed himself into a corner with undervaluing the DT position and having no backup plan. The position isn’t good enough with Osa back, and it’s bleak if he walks.

I can see the franchise tag happening as well. As others have said, this will give Jerry a built in excuse to not have cap room to do anything else.
