After hearing all the excuses from Wade and company about the laces, blah, blah, I suppose I'm a little skeptical of McBriar being at fault.
Even if McBriar himself admits it?

If that was the issue from the start, why the hell did Wade make up some BS.

I think its just the team trying to prevent a total Vandershank situation where Folk psychs himself out permanently.

Speaking of Vandershank, I don't remember him getting such a defense when his kicks were spraying all over the field.

Got me....but it wouldn't be the first time that Wade was less than honest in a post game statement.

They better fix this, because it's going to kill the Cowboys.

It's going to cost us a game here if it doesn't stop.

Folk better start making some kicks.

What are friends for?

McBriar is trying to cover for Folk because they are friends.

Folk stinks right now and is in danger of being cut. McBriar is lying to try to save his buddy.

I an't buying any of McBriar's excuses.

Get a new holder in there now and watch Folk shank them again. It ain't the holder. It is Folk.

If this has been the problem all along, why the hell was this not addressed before the final 4 games of the season???

McBriar has been screwing up the holds all year and nothing has been done to address it???

Wow:eek:

The Jets replaced Steve Weatherford with Kellen Clemens and Jay Feely hasn't missed a beat since.

Your argument is invalid.

That's not what you want to hear from your holder. So why don't the Cowboys let Jon Kitna have a try? I can't answer that. I also think wide receiver Patrick Crayton, a former quarterback, would do a nice job.

What about Ro...

Nah forget it. My bad.

I dont see why dont they try some new holders, or even try Kitna.

Let's go for it on all PAT's. Statistically speaking if we convert at least 50% of them we'd be fine. Getting 2 yards with 6'5 Witten, 6'3 Williams, 6'3 Austin, and Patrick "The Endzone TD Machine" Crayton shouldn't be a problem.

We could start a new trend. :)

I guess you don't. My guess, he put it in the right spot because he's been holding for months now.

Looks pretty similar to me. Those are his two kicks.

Looks like McBriar's aiming for the hash line.
Even before I read the whole thread, just looking at the pics you can see Folks approach was different...as well as the ball being spotted different.

Someone equated the process. I'd equate it similar to free throws in football. Have the same approach, the same routine everytime to give it your best chance of making it.

It didn't matter which of the pics was the make and which was the miss. It wasn't consistent.

By no means where they supposed to be snapped at the same time in his motion.

As far as different spotting, I wonder if that has more to do with them being on a specific hash.

The Rams did that for a game or two when their kicker was injured, during their "greatest show on turf" era. I can't remember though, whether it was their punter or kicker that was injured. So they were either going for it on every 4th down instead of punting, or going for two on every PAT. It worked out okay for them with that offense they had.

NFC East Watch - Mosley

Cowboys punter/holder Mat McBriar and place-kicker Nick Folk are close friends. Folk made the trip to McBriar's wedding in Hawaii two summers ago and the two of them are inseparable on and off the practice field.

But as ESPNDallas.com's Calvin Watkins points out, Folk and McBriar don't appear to be on the same page right now when it comes to preparing to kick a field goal. Folk has been highly frustrated with the holds that McBriar has been giving him as he's gone 4-of-9 this season, but Sunday was the first time the kicker showed outward frustration.

McBriar's never felt comfortable holding, but that's the direction special teams coordinator Joe DeCamillis wanted to go.

"I've always worked with [Folk] even when Brad [Johnson] was here in practice," McBriar said. "Some reason, we get in the games and I get a little bit ahead of myself and I lunge out to catch the ball, which I shouldn't. Every time I should catch the ball over the spot, and I move forward. It's something in my brain, I don't know."

That's not what you want to hear from your holder. So why don't the Cowboys let Jon Kitna have a try? I can't answer that. I also think wide receiver Patrick Crayton, a former quarterback, would do a nice job.

Only the Cowboys can have such problems with basic football. Many high school and college teams don't have near the problems this team has with fundamentals. UNBELIEVABLE!!!!!

This problem has gone on all season, what do they do at practice for this to still be going on in December? Do they practice?

If McBriar came to the sideline and said it was his fault, Wade knows the problem was with the hold, and he probably thought McBriar bobbled it or something.

dcfanatic has a thread where Wade tried to say it was because of the laces, I think.

And were talking a bit after the game. If McBriar said it was his fault, I'm sure he would elaborate as to why it was his fault. I'm sure Wade knew minutes after the kick it wasn't the laces yet he still went with it.

Just a stupid situation all around.

Here's a quote from McBriar --

"What the holder is supposed to do is catch the ball over the spot and put it down. I sometimes get ahead of myself and I catch it in front of the spot, so by the time I put it down the laces are facing any which way . . . It was a bad spin too, so that hurt us."

So maybe McBriar told Phillips it was the spot AND the laces, considering that's what he told the media.
