NEW YORK -- The problem with launching a blog is you're basically suggesting that your life is so compelling that it must be shared with complete strangers, who once made do with their own human experiences.
According to a number I made up, more than 75 percent of Americans now have blogs. This explosion of self-reflective behavior has freaked out great men such as NBC's Brian Williams, who recently complained about competing with men in robes who rarely leave their apartments. And while I share his fear of the male robe, it's apparent that blogs are here to stay.

In fact, I'll be launching an NFL blog for ESPN.com during this weekend's draft. For the handful of you familiar with my old Dallas Cowboys blog, you know what to expect.
For the rest of you, I hope you'll spend at least 14 or 15 hours getting to know me this weekend.
At this very moment, my editors are trying to think of a generic name for my blog. I've come up with "Obstructed View" and "The Guy who looks like Todd McShay," but those names have been greeted with indifference. If you have something in mind that doesn't include an expletive, please forward it to me quickly. We're running out of time here, folks.

If you're wondering what to expect from this live draft blog tomorrow, know that I just spent $59 on three draft magazines, at least one of which was produced after 2006.
I'll be working the phones both days, so you'll definitely know who the Cowboys are taking each round, and we'll have some solid leads in Arizona, San Diego and Oakland -- a location that Ed Werder will be rapid-fire texting from.
My goal is to be the eyes and ears for those of you who aren't making the trip to Radio City Music Hall. If I see an awkward man hug take place, you'll be the first to know about it. Of course, I also encourage you to watch our TV coverage of the draft, which began three years ago.
Now I'm off to record a highly watchable segment for ESPNEWS' runaway hit, "The Hot List." I'll see you back here later.
1:22 a.m.: (Saturday): According to this report in the Miami Herald, the Cowboys called Oklahoma running back Adrian Peterson on Friday to confirm his cellphone number. I wouldn't read too much into this unless you feel like it.
But if Peterson and his shaky collarbone start sliding, Jerry Jones could get trigger-happy.
In other Cowboys news, my guys in San Diego are still sad that Wade Phillips isn't their head coach.
OK, let's talk in the morning.
1 a.m. (Saturday): Just talked to one of the best college scouts in the league. He said the Chargers would love to see Texas safety Michael Griffin fall to No. 30. And I don't think A.J. Smith will hesitate to trade up a few spots if he finds a safety or wide receiver he likes. I'm sure Jerry Jones has already placed a call to Smith about trading down.
Can you imagine how good the Chargers could be with a true No. 1 wide receiver? They might be willing to make a strong offer to get their hands on Dwayne Bowe or Robert Meachem.
12:08 a.m. (Saturday): I now have two text messages from veteran players today saying they're fed up with NFLPA chief Gene Upshaw. Much more to come on this issue.
Mavs in big trouble against Golden State. Absolutely ridiculous. Warriors playing like the No. 1 seed.

11:30 p.m.: Just got off the phone with a member of the Raiders' scouting department who was watching the Mavs-Warriors game. He backed up report by ESPN's Ed Werder that most people in the organization thought JaMarcus Russell would be the No. 1 pick. But there are still several people with the Raiders attempting to convince Al Davis he should draft Calvin Johnson.
"Don't write that it's Russell until you hear something from me" is the way my guy left it. I think Ed, a 14-handicapper at Cowboys Golf Club, has done an excellent job of getting as much information as possible from a notoriously uncooperative club. Back with more in a moment. I've been distracted by this Mavs-Warriors game.
5:39 p.m.: Now, I'm headed over to P.J. Clarke's to meet with noted draft expert Dan Fleetwood, who should provide some great insight on what the Giants will do this weekend.

Brandon Meriweather: A future Cowboy? Ahh, not.
5:37 p.m. Jerry Jones finally faxed his draft board over to the hotel. The bellman is on his way up with it as we speak. Here's what I'm able to tell you: All the Brandon Meriweather talk has started to die down. I still don't think the Cowboys will take a wide receiver, but the guys they really like are LSU's Dwayne Bowe and Tennessee's Robbie Meachem, who grew up roping calves in Tulsa.
And don't think the signing of Brock Berlin will have any impact on whether the Cowboys go after a quarterback in this draft. The guy they really like is BYU's John Beck, although the most attractive member of the club's PR staff has thrown her support behind Houston's Kevin Kolb.
On Saturday, we'll have several Cowboys-free entries for those of you who might prefer other teams. And at 10:30 a.m. ET, I'll be releasing my mock draft in Times Square. More details to come on that.
One last thing: How could ESPN release an NFL draft preview magazine and leave my cousin Paul Mosley off the running back list? This man has third-day value, and I'm ashamed that Todd McShay doesn't recognize this.
5 p.m.: I still have not received confirmation that this blog is actually showing up somewhere on ESPN.com, but I remain hopeful. Just received a voice mail from 49ers assistant head coach and Hall of Fame linebacker Mike Singletary, who was trying to help me out with a story that ran earlier this week.
For a Baylor graduate, receiving a voice mail from Singletary is pretty much like a Notre Dame alum receiving a text from the Pope.

Is Purdue star Anthony Spencer on the Cowboys' radar?
4:30 p.m.: I was thrilled to see the number of a Cowboys assistant coach show up on my phone, but it turns out he was asking for tickets to the Byron Nelson Championship, which is going on in Irving, Texas, right now. From everything I can tell, the Cowboys will attempt to trade down and select Purdue defensive end/linebacker Anthony Spencer. Director of scouting Jeff Ireland and his staff love how much ground the kid covers, and the Cowboys need another pass-rusher.
You may recall Jerry Jones saying last week that he has two offers for his 2008 first-rounder, but I don't think he wants to do it. In other news, Chris Mortensen threw out a rather knowing hello as he stepped off our hotel elevator a few minutes ago. Pretty sure he thinks I'm Todd McShay, who has been in a split-screen with Mel Kiper for the past three months.
And the first person who e-mails me the name of the player I picked for the Rams on this afternoon's edition of "The Hot List" will receive a free ESPNEWS T-shirt. (Do we make these?)

1 p.m. We checked into our Midtown hotel Thursday night next to last year's No. 1 overall draft choice, Mario Williams, who ran into a little trouble recently on the North Carolina roadways. The woman at the front desk said she only had one of our rooms ready, so it seemed like a good time to defer to Mario. And I respect a man who takes his own Louis Vuitton luggage up the room.
Later, I'll be back to publish Mario's room number in case anyone wants to stop by and say hello.
