As has been pointed out, to trade down someone has to want to trade up. Only if some team falls in love with a player thats around at our pick and might be gone at theirs will they make a trade. That is very unrpredictable and frankly not likely to happen.

Was there any doubt that the "trade down king" would try to trade down in this draft?

I love that they're high on Spencer, but I don't think he'll last until the 2nd. Baltimore will snag him. Honestly he's good value at 22. Just stay there, don't get cute, and draft him.

Amen.

That is a common myth. See Buffalo and the Losman trade.

well Your right, that is why I said at length ted ginn jr could be the key to us moving down. I dont think any of the teams behind us will move up for a safety or a corner.

there is no third qb to take in the first round. So ginn jr might slip, and he could be the guy that kc, san diego, or the jets might want.

Otherwise I dont see anyone trading up for a guard or a safety.

You're right. I'm lost, because I don't see that anywhere in the post and I didn't hear the interview.

well if you search fox 4 news in Dallas, there website might put the interview up, but I doubt it because it was on the sunday sports show.

I like both players alot. If we can't get a good trade--which is likely, because as several people pointed out, who wants to go up?--I'd be fine with either at 22.

I agree that Spencer's decent value at #1. Some guys won't like it, but I think that's about where he should go. And Merriweather, well, I know alot of guys will hate it, but he's so damn talented (can go to either CB or S) and if Jerry and Ireland are comfortable with him, then I'll just have to assume they've done their homework

We haven't heard of any teams looking to trade up, b/c there's no strategic value in tipping your hand prior to the draft. Come draft day, when I player a team has a top 15 grade on is sitting at 22, it's a lot easier justifying giving up a third round pick to move up a few spots. There will be trading partners.

As for Spencer/Merriweather, the point is to get good value relative to your draft spot. Taking either at 22 would be a slight reach.

The point of the draft is to get good players, first and foremost...it's ideal to get that and relative value. If you can't, pick good players and go from there.

Exactly.

I think Spencer might surprise and have a Kamerion Wimbley-like rise up the draft board this weekend. Good production at a coveted position and rock-solid character and work ethic is going to look very "safe" to some GMs on Saturday.

From what I see, I don't think I would trade out of the first round unless I had an offer I couldn't refuse. I see several players I think can become solid players that won't be there for the first pick in the second round.
