Aikman is considered by many NFL pundits to be the most accurate passer of all time. His mechanics were impeccable. Marino probably had the greatest arm (combination of quick release, cannon arm, and accuracy combined) of all time, but nobody hit receivers on the money consistently like Aikman did.

One interesting footnote. Probably the one QB who came close to putting it on the money like Aikman was Kurt Warner during the Rams late 90s run. For two maybe three years, he ran that timing offense like a watch. I don't recall ever seeing a Rams receiver breaking a stride.

Ken Anderson was the most accurate QB that did not play in a timing program.
He played before there was such a thing. He could make every pass and put it right on the money. Sadly he will never get the credit he was due since he played on the Bungles.

Aikman of course was considered the most accurate QB in the league at the time. Len Dawson also had the rep as the most accurate QB of his time. Staubach was also very accurate which is why he retired with the highest QB rating ever to that point.

Shouldn't Staubach get some mention? For several years the only time he threw an INT was becaues of a fluke tiped ball.

Watch Aikman's highlight films. Unlike other quarterbacks you almost NEVER see a ball flutter. Every pass is a perfect spiral with almost no wiggle at all.

I love threads like this and hearing about the older players.

Good pickup on Dawson, he was a great QB and very accurate and his passes were not the WCO variety either.

Let's go a little further with this posters, who are some of the most accurate QBs, you seen play past, or present.

Here's my top 5: 1. Joe Montana, 2. Troy Aikman, 3. Steve Young, 4. Peyton Manning, 5. Tom Brady.

I think I would put Aikman ahead of Montana on accuracy based on Aikman probably threw deeper passes more often.

I dont know though... anyone know?

What stinks for Aikman is that he probably should be one of the TOP 3 SB winningest QB's of all time with Montana and Bradshaw......

If just looking at Completion Percentage for Career (min 1500 attempts) according to NFL.com
The top 3 are
1. Chad Pennington (65.61%)
2. Kurt Warner (65.09%)
3. Steve Young (64.28%)

Not exactly what I thought would be there although as previously stated do we just take into account this or the distances thrown also...fyi Troy Aikman (61.5%)

here's the link http://www.nfl.com/history/randf/records/indiv/passing
