This is taken from a very good draft blog: http://maxnfldraft.blogspot.com/index.html

All of it is the work of the author of that blog. I just edited format.

Here's the formula used for determining "explosiveness":

Formula: BW/25+BJ+VJ/3+25(2-10yd)
BW=Body Weight
BJ=Broad Jump
VJ=Vertical Jump
10yd=10 yard time

There were 245 players at the combine that did all of those tests.

Here's this year's Top 100:

Good criteria for analysis. Interesting stuff.

I'd still take DeOssie in the third over Robison in the first or second.

Surprising to see Ginn nowhere on that list. Is that because there are no "measurements" out there for him (shuttle time, broad and vertical jumps)?

Amobi Okoye is one of if not the most explosive DT's in the draft; however, I don't see his name anywhere on this list.

In his formula, he tried to account for weight, but you can't completely negate it as a factor. O-line and DTs were severely underrepresented in the top 100 becuase of that. I'm going to e-mail him and see if he can send me the entire list. That way you could at least compare O-line and DTs within their respective groups.

Very impressed with Rice's explosion number. He definitely plays a lot faster than he timed in the 40. I've seen him get seperation from Cedric Houston, who ran in the 4.3's.

DeOssie still might go in the fourth, but both of their workouts have recently bumped their stock quite a bit. Robison is defintely a day one guy now. ...this is just going from what most "analysts" are projecting...some of which know little or nothing. so who knows.

I like Deossie. His production is superb, albeit in a slightly lower scale to elite programs like Texas. I think his talent is equivalent to a second rounder. I'd be ecstatic if we got him in the third...moreso in the fourth. He'd be a steal that late.

I'll be highly surprised if DeOssi isn't wearing a new hat by Saturday night. Most boards I've seen put Robison in the third or fourth.

One thing you have to remember is that these numbers don't mean a guy is a great ball player. But I'd say any player in the top 20 or so who has demonstrated exceptional ability in college is probably very special. Exhibits: Adrian Peterson, Calvin Johnson, Partrick Willis and LaRon Landry. If Willis there at 22, and he won't be, I don't see how he can't be the pick.

it was almost a sub 4.3

4.32, and Houston is a very good press-corner

So how does this formula line up with drafts in the past? Would like to see how good a predictor it is.

I don't think "explosiveness" by itself is a good predictor of NFL production. Beyond that, explosiveness is whatever you define it as, so there's really no right or wrong answer.

"Explosiveness" should be just one component in an overal formula. Masomenos used a similar formula in creating his overall predictor formula in the WR thread.

That's very interesting....

3 Quincy Black, OLB/New Mexico: 45.51

This guy is a player, indeed...it's too bad that he has that first name! ;)

Don't ya think with the D Wade plays, we can eliminate all the "zone" guys? Whenever i see "not a good man to man cover CB, better suited for a zone/cover 2 D" i don't read anymore on the guy.
