The problem is Aaron Rodgers is no Steve Young.BraveHeartFan;2177628 said:It's hands down going to be Rodgers. The first time he has even a bad half they're going to hate him more than they do now. The people are at training camp chanting 'We Want Favre'. That tells you right there that Aaron isn't going to get a whole lot of love from the fans.
He's kind of in the situation Steve Young was in with San Fran for a couple years after Montana left. Until he got them past the Cowboys, and into the Superbowl, they never really fully got behind him. Even when they were doing well it was always "Well Steve's ok but he's no Joe."
Aaron is going to face the same thing until he wins a Superbowl.

I know very few 49er fans who hate Steve Young though.Doomsday101;2177641 said:But then Steve Young was no Joe Montana. Following in the footsteps of a great QB is hard to overcome. Brett is loved by the GB faithful and it will be hard for Rodgers. 1st bad game and fans will be all over him. In the end Thompson will the man who catches the major heat if GB does not make it back to the NFC Championship game where Brett got them last year. Right now they don’t want to allow Brett to compete and they don’t want to trade him to Minn now if you feel he is not good enough to win the job in GB why would you be worried about him in Minn?

How many Broncos fans hate Jake Plummer?
How many of us hate Quincy?
Rodgers is a daisy and he's following an iron man. I'll be shocked if he lasts the season.

:laugh2:
Just because you guys hate him does not mean Packeres fans will.
I still think Rodgers because he will be the guy that will hear the fans and the media will focus on him when the Packers struggle. Chum in the water.

Steve Young was good... but we gave him that SB.
If we would have taken care of business... Steve never gets the relief of saying "get that monkey off my back" towards end of SB game.
Thompson should stand up to Princess Farva
Doomsday101;2177701 said:How should Thompson stand up to him? They have a choice of paying him the 12 mill and evidently there was an offer of 20 or 25 mill for Brett to stay retired or they could trade him. Now if you don't think he is better than Rodgers then why not trade him to Minn basically you are staying he is no longer able to do the job
Reality;2177711 said:I was listening to ESPN radio last night and their reporter who was at Packers Camp yesterday said that the crowd kept shouting "We want Brett! Bring back Brett!" over and over. On top of that, she said it they did not just do it for a few minutes at the start of practice, but it went on for over an hour.
Say what you want, but the moment Rodgers loses his first game, even if it is not his fault, you will have an entire stadium of "We want Brett!" chants all game long. In fact, you will hear them even during the game every time Rodgers throws an incompletion.
It's not fair, but I blame the Packers. They have a guy that has given them a Super Bowl and helped put the Packers back in the spotlight throughout his career and if they wanted to move on, they should have just released him.
You don't trade a guy who's given you 15+ years of all-pro service. You treat him with respect and let him go on with his life and then after his playing days are really behind him, you bring him back for PR events, cameos, etc. and use him as your marketing guy for the next few years.
Instead, they want to control him .. they are stupid for letting it get to this point. Rodgers is not a bad guy but he will be hated by a large percentage of the Packer's fans.
The Cowboys let Emmitt, Troy, Deion, Haley, Allen, and more go .. the Packers should have followed their lead.
Now, there are going to be hard feelings from Favre even after he really retires and the Packers organization is going to regret this more than they realize at that time.
