Most Improved Player - Offense

The defensive thread was much easier than this one. I'm feeling pretty encouraged about the offensive talent pool now because I can't pick among the options.

Williams all season long looked like a guy that simply needed an offseason training program. Even for a rookie, mental mistakes didn't seem to be a major concern.

Gallup of course started coming on late and now has a full offseason to work with Dak and and his running mate Cooper.

Speaking of Cooper, he just walked in midseason and tore it up. What's a full offseason with Dak gonna produce?

Then there's Jarwin who had a clear breakout game late season and currently finds himself as the #1 TE until further notice.

And finally, Scott Linehan is gone. That should lift everyone if Moore reaches half of his current hype level. This alone puts Dak on the list of potential answers.

Too hard to pick one guy. Let's just say this exercise made me feel good about a potential turnaround on offense this season.

Of course, you knew this was coming but do not expect Special Teams because the Cowboys' isn't.

This is a little trickier than the D and maybe a few more candidates and other than Martin, who's as good as they come, and Big Smitty who's on the south side of his career, who isn't a candidate including Williams?

I am gonna go with Michael Gallup here because I expect him to be the beneficiary of Cooper's first full year. I think Cooper will be good but about like last year. And Prescott and Gallup were really connecting as the season went on, I think there's something there.

Yosemite really isn't a fair pick but he's the leading candidate in the NFL comeback player of the year and has got to be the emotional favorite. The improvement that he will bring will be to the overall OL. He was missed far more than any of us believed.

OK, who's your guy and please, let's not turn this into another Dakster v Dakater thread.

Connor williams

Travis Frederick. The only thing I saw him do all season was get beat by Antwoin Woods at training.

My second option is Ezekiel Elliott.

My hope is that it will be Zeke. Hoping he can pull off a offensive player of the year candidate type of year with more TDs.

Dak... he wasn't very good in 2017 but was much better in 2018.

The part of his game he needs to improve is simple and should be easy for him. After the first few reads and he had the open lanes he has to take it. Not calling his own number (which he is good at that) but taking the lanes between the hash marks and scrambling up the middle. Not scrambling around the outside. He is holding the ball and taking sacks he shouldn’t because he isn’t taking the lanes you could drive a truck through. Waiting till the pocket breaks down. Once he starts doing that then defenses will be freaking out.

I think we should go more up-tempo with Dak. Keep the WR routes simple and quick to run so he isn't waiting on routes to develop. Crisp and clean and no caffeine! He's cool and calm under pressure, seems to have a calming influence in the huddle. His best play is under pressure late in games or on that last drive before half time. He has the ability and the tools around him to move the ball consistently.

We need to turn the red zone into our zone. If we can improve on one thing, red zone TD's instead of penalties, sacks and blown assignments I can see an average of 6-7 more points/game. I'll take 27 points/game with our defense. Slot receiver and where we go with the position is a big off-season decision.

Think by far the most improved player was Joe Looney, and no explaination is needed

You're being asked to project the most improved player for 2019, not pick the most improved one from 2018.

think the most improved needs to be whoever is the TE. We saw how successuful the offense and Dak was when the TE was doing their part.

The nice thing is that not only is this needed, it could be likely. Jarwin is in a good spot to take a step forward

WIlliams and Gallup are the two guys I'll be watching closely. C-Will already pretty much has it all except for power: he can pull, his pass blocking technique is great, he sees stunts - dude could be ready to break out if he gains more strength.

Gallup's already shown he can beat NFL DBs deep, dude just needs to work on his underneath game and hope for a little better luck on the long balls, because deep balls can be really fluky. If he turns some of those drops or off-the-fingertip misses into 30 and 40 yard completions, we've got a player.

I've said it before, but this is the year where I think we really start seeing the non-LVE returns from this draft class. We've got WIlliams, Gallup, Armstrong, Schultz, Covington, Mike White and Cedrick Wilson all looking for a role this year. Not all of those guys are going to make it, probably not even the majority. But I think that we're going to get 2-3 pretty good players from that pool.

Good topic Coach...hard to pick just one.
Here’s mine in order-
1. Michael Gallup- he was becoming a stud by season’s end and I expect that rise to continue.
2. LVE- I know many won’t list him here because he had a great rookie year. But I think he’s a possible ALL PRO in 2019.
3. Dalton Schultz- I expect him to be the starter next year ahead of Jarwin.
4. Connor Williams- he has a lot of room for improvement. Needs to bulk his strength up and I expect improvement.

Like most here, I think TFred will make a comeback but I’m still a little concerned about how fast he will recover. It may take a little longer than expected.

I didn't list LVE because he was so good already, not sure how much better he can get!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah, there's a lot of hoopla about Jarwin right now, but I think Schultz will be the better player.

The single biggest thing that can happen for the Cowboys next year is for Dak to take another step. So I’ll be hopeful and go with that. Protect him better, and get him another weapon in the passing game—specifically in the red zone—and let’s see what happens.

Both for play and cap relevance.

Same here, there were times we couldn't even debate this on either side of the line. Not enough candidates.

And DS, therein lies the rub, while all of the pissing and moaning goes on about a 11-7 division winning season, it is not nearly as dark as some feel it is.

I've said this in other threads and will continue to say it. Until we can let this "23 years" go and realize this is a year to year proposition, we will cheat ourselves of some real opportunity at positive energy and optimism. Hell, if a card carrying pessimist of 50 years can do this, everyone can. The past has little to do with the view of the future in this game.
