Last year we were 13-3 with Barber as a closer. We were #1 or #2 in the league/NFC in offense. Starting with the Giants playoff game last year, we have been going down hill on offense. I know this is not the only reason but maybe one of them. If it wasn't broken, why the big change?
I would love to see Felix Jones start and split some carries with Tashard Choice and then have "Marian the Barbarian" close the 4th quarter. In the first three I would also have MB in some TB/FB situations, just to keep 'em honest. We did some of this over the past season with MB playing in some FB packages. I know he is not a true FB but we could give him a couple plays in the first 3 quarters at both spots. I'm saying just to stay involved, decoy maybe, catch a few swing passes/block or take a couple short yardage carries etc. Whatever it takes. I'm talking team football.
Before all of you "we pay him 40 mil" guys start screaming...it's 5 million a year I believe over 8 years. Let's be real. Jerry paid high I understand but he had no history that Marian could carry the full load. JJ only had history that he could NOT carry the full load after the loss to the NY Giants in lasts year's playoffs. I don't think he is worth that much less, if any as a closer if we are WINNING. This is a matter of opinion.
He was not able to stay healthy in 2008 either and we were more predictable as an offense. This is a league with tremendous speed and Felix Jones is a secret weapon. He needs more then 5-6 touches per game. As for Choice I think we all saw what he could do. We have been very average on offense since the NY Giants playoff Game last year when Marian Barber started. I think this is a place where we can "change".
