QBs need teams. Mayfield and Darnold both went to teams with 2-3 explosive WRs, very good OL and run games, and above average to excellent defenses. When was the last time Dallas had those things; Jerry always goes short on defense or receivers, and this year he went short on all 4 things.
These QBs were considered busts until they got to talented teams with good coaching and play calling.
Do you really think Mayfield or Darnold would far much better than Dak behind what our OL was the first half of the season with our running game and only having 1 receiver who can get open, along with a defense that was getting destroyed early on? Apples and oranges; you can't compare qb's from good teams with qb's from bad teams other than measurables like height and arm strength.
Troy Aikman is in the HOF. Give him a below average OL, no #2 receiver who can get open and make plays, and a below average defense....he's still Troy Aikman, but do you think he gets to a SB or has the career he had?
This team needs playmakers on offense badly. Brooks and Tolbert are both garbage; they cannot get open to save their lives, and it's killing us. Yes, Brooks finally got his first TD catch on a crazy pass heaved into coverage. Yes, Tolbert caught a TD pass on a long crossing route. They each had 1 reception for the game....those were it!
Tolbert is 81st in receptions, 78th in yards, 31st in TDs, and 130th in yards per catch.
Brooks is 150+ in receptions, 150+ in yards, 136th in TDs, and 42nd in yards per catch.
And it's not because of Cooper Rush; they cannot get open and should be way way way down the depth chart and playing special teams only.
