i haven'te heard they are going to stop supporting XP. i've heard you are no longer going to be able to go out and buy a computer with XP soon (or its already happened) but there are rumors of MS scraping vista for windows 7 (code named)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_7 (keep in mind when Vista was starting to get legs stretched and images came out it looked like XP, so thats why it looks like vista still)

You can no longer buy a retail computer with XP on it but I still order them with XP for business use (from Dell).

I haven't heard anything about stopping support but I doubt it happens because alot of people have switched back to XP from Vista.

You can still buy most any business class pc with XP Pro...

If they do it like they did W2K, they will sell them for another couple of years but will raise the price tag by around $200 by next year in order to discourage purchase...

I wouldn't get too excited about Windows 7 coming out next year, after all Vista (Or Longhorn as it was known as then) was supposed to come out in 2003.

I just bought a new computer for my daughter and it came with vista home premium. I'm not too impressed with it. It isn't all that fast, slower than winxp and it won't recognize the wireless network adapter that I was using with her old computer (with winxp), I guess it isn't vista compatible and there isn't any driver for vista so I guess I'll have to buy another wireless network adapter.

Look we can give you all the advice but here it is layed out for you proof that Vista Performance on high end machines underperformed compared to xp.

Here is the end depth benchmark; Yes i read all 30 pages because it is my job to read things like this. This is a well respected site and they due indepth bench mark testing. You can skip to the final review page if you like.
Needless to say i game and I actually run server 2003 on 1 pc and xp on the other in my house.

I personally love Vista, I have 2 pc's on my desk, I run Vista ultimate on one and XP on the other.

If I don't tell you which is which you won't know the difference, unless you actually look for it.

Turn off the glam and Vista runs very well. I also turn off the UAC stuff as it is annoying.

If you do high end games it is proven you lose between 15-25% of your performance even turning of the glam there are a few games written for direct x 10 and even they do not give you a reason to move if you are a high end gamer. Part of the problem is the drivers and Microsoft not supporting Open GL anymore directly in the OS . Most your games out there run open GL. Trust me Evercrack I or II is not going to rewrite there entire engine or any other MMO put there or currently in development nope.

UAC is turned off in the registry or the policy both ways work you cab Google it to but here is one way

1. Open Administrative Tools in Control Panel
2. Double-click on System Configuration
3. Click Continue to accept the UAC prompt
4. Select the Tools tab
5. Scroll down and select Disable UAC
6. Click Launch
7. Reboot your machine
Note that you may not be able to disable UAC if Group Policy configured for enforcing UAC on your computers.
