I think Porter's play made Greenberry expendable and could put Goodley in trouble. The guy hit the ground running...scouts may have hit gold w/ that pickup.

I just read that Goodley has been out 10 days with hamstring issues, so I guess that's at least one reason why we haven't heard much about him. I don't remember reading anything that stood out before that, though.

As far as Greenberry goes, I think he made himself expendable.

I haven't seen this kind of churning at the bottom of the roster since Jimmy took his Heineken's to Miami. Love seeing it.

I hate it for these guys that were cut, but they more than had their chance to grab the coach's attention and they didn't.

Maybe one of these new guys will.

Gates had a really good first day.

The guys released may get a shot elsewhere. Hope so.

Clyde Gates could be a factor on returns.

Gates history is kinda odd
29 yrs old, very fast, hasn't returned punts since his rookie year that I can find
If he was that big of a special teams threat why didn't they use him? Was his receiving skills so bad ? He has decent kick return numbers and he has a few returns but curious why he wasn't used as a punt returner more

He will be one of the guys I want to see in this next game. He and Whitehead and Harwell. I think it's between these 3 players. And this game could push Harwell or Porter back. Unless either can return punts and kicks to push Whitehead. Also can either play ST's other than returns.

Sad tale for Greenberry. Exploded in high school, committed to ND, on signing day switched to Houston to follow an assistant coach who became a "buddy" to him. Played in complete obscurity at Houston despite putting up good numbers.

Bad decision Deontay turning down places like ND and USC to go follow a coach to Houston.

Houston is not remotely "complete obscurity". Elon college maybe. Certainly not Division 1 Houston. More obscure than ND or USC? For sure. But scouting departments completely scour all D-1 programs...and most D-2 programs as well.

he did make it into an NFL camp anyway.

Also, who's to say he wouldn't be buried on the bench at those other places. Afterall, all of their players were recruited by those schools, so he would just be the same as the other recruits.

Just saying, Houston is not the end of the earth.

It was a poor decision on his part. He even admitted after signing day he basically followed Jamie Christian there and turned down offers from real D1 powers.

And yeah, NFL teams finds guys at all kinds of colleges but there is no question that playing at a major school gives one a far greater chance at NFL success. He's shown all along that he's made poor decisions, even coming out of Houston after his junior year when draft progs showed he probably wouldn't get drafted.

Yup. Another awful pick under the Ireland Miami regime.

He had hands of stone in Miami IIRC. practice and whenever they tried to throw deep to him.

USC didn't exactly help George Farmer play any better. He was considered the #1 WR coming out of high school wasn't he?

I like Harwell. I think he can be a slightly taller Beasley, but does Dallas need a slightly taller Beasley? They need a return guy and that gives Whitehead the edge over Harwell. Porter is the unknown. Thus far, everything I've read is that he came in ready, has done everything asked of him, but he seems like he's primarily a WR.

Does seem like Harwell & Porter are a bit more polished as WRs, but lack ST/return skills. The flip side seems that Whitehead has the ST/return skills but lacks some of the WR skills. Question is, which are they willing to develop? They found 3 pretty good rookies IMO.

I doubt they carry 6Wrs when there could be depth needs elsewhere (like LB/S/CB/Dline/Oline/RB...haha)

Probably a favor for Dunn
Now he has a chance to catch on with a team where he actually has a shot
Green berry sealed his fate when he dropped everything thrown his way

Greenberry looked the part but WR's usually have to catch the ball. If he works on his hands he may catch on someday

I think Whitehead has run away with the 5th spot. They see a future for him. Although he's the one I see as a slightly taller Beasley. Harwell has pretty decent size, I just don't know how much upside is there. Practice squad gives him time to show more. Porter at least at this point could also be a practice squad guy. Since he's been released once already he should be safe unless he blows up in preseason. But he could also hit a wall and not be worth keeping.
