Sure. This is a fun scenario.... ;)

Let's take a run at the 1978 New England Patriots who rushed for 3165 yards and 30 TDs.

Interesting note about that team -- They didn't have a single 1000 yard rusher. Heck, they didn't even have a single guy break 800 yards.

They did have what many believe to be the greatest offensive tackle of all time -- John Hannah.

Well, if the discussion is about having two great backs in the same backfield who were successful, there are examples of it.

Shady and Sproles in Philly were pretty good. Fred Jackson and CJ Spiller in Buffalo. Detroit has Bell and Bush. Woodhead and Mathews in SD, Foster and Tate in Houston, Stewart and Williams in Carolina.

Historically, you had Czonka and Mercury Morris in Miami, Kevin Mack and Ernest Byner in Cleveland, Harris and Blair in Pittsburgh, Icky Woods and James Brooks in Cincy, Fred Taylor and MJD in Jacksonville. There have been some really good RB combos down throw the years.

I like having a bell cow. You would think the combo of Walker and Dorsett would be great but it wasn't. These backs want the load and do better as the game moves on

In 1984 Campbell played in 8 games for the Saints that year. That is one obscure factoid.

Yeah, I was only trying to think of two backs who played on the same team who both lead the NFL in rushing in their careers. I thought that was the question. Those were the only two I could think of. There could be more.

Actually this scenario isn't so far fetched. Aren't Murray and Peterson good friends? Why not play together for the same team. Murray on a long term deal and Peterson on a cheap short term.

Dorsett & Walker revisited if it would happen....

Well before the NFL the Browns had Motley and Brown. Not sure on any other duo.

DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart come to mind. Two top 10 rushers on Carolina.

Edit: They were the first duo to rush for more than 1,110 yards each in the same season. They won one playoff game against the Cardinals (2009).

Oh I didn't know if there were any instances but you found at least the two.

Some Dorsett/Walker stats - source Bleacher Report so take it for what its worth

Stats as a tandem (1986-1987)

Herschel Walker: 1,628 rush yards, 1,552 receiving yards and 22 touchdowns

Tony Dorsett: 1,204 rush yards and eight touchdowns

This has more to do with the obvious transition the Dallas Cowboys were making at the time. Tom Landry was a couple years away from being replaced by Jimmy Johnson, and Jerry Jones would soon become their owner. It was pretty much out with the old and in with the new.

Still, to have two players of this caliber in the same backfield had to be something for the fans of this mediocre team. Dallas didn't finish above .500 in either of the seasons Dorsett and Walker were together, but their union signaled something far greater. Tony Dorsett was the last man standing for a franchise that had built itself up to being "America's Team."

You also had Chuck Muncie and James Brooks for the Chargers back in the day. Their rushing totals, together, were not great per say but their rushing and receiving numbers together were pretty darn good. You figure that they also had Wes Chandler, Charlie Joiner and Kellen Winslow on that team, you wonder how good they could have been if more of the offense was centered around them?

This is what we do here. We get AP after he is cut, sign Murray for 3 million a year. Sign Ray Rice for 1 million a year. Then Marshawn Lynch retires, we negotiate a 5th round pick to the Seahawks and get him sign him for 8 large bags of skittles a day.

While we're at it, let's get the other Adrian Peterson out of retirement!

What if we:
Resign Murray, let's say 5mil per
Randle ends up getting fleeced by his problems
Vikings up right cut AP

What is our salary cap with AP taking a friendly $3mil deal? With what happens above? Is Dunbar signed long term? Williams?

I know more in the know post often.... So what's the ramifications?

Something to get away from this Dez stuff

this is exactly right. demarco, if you want to stay with us and win a super bowl then take five million a year. adrian if you grew up a cowboy's fan and want the dream situation of playing for the cowboys and help win a super bowl then take two million a year for two years. jerry jones make it happen because we will need BOTH to win a super bowl. a one two punch like this with our receivers behind our line and assuming tony romo stays healthy the offense will be lethel. to some of the questions: what if itz fourth and one who do you give it to? either one. if we get that first down the success will satisfy everyone. there will be plenty of fourth and a yard situations during the season where both will get us that yard. another question. have we ever had two great backs during the same season? yes! 1996 with emmit smith and hershcel walker. great one two punch that could have won us a super bowl except injuries hit us late that year and we barely lost to the panthers after michael irvin was injured early in that game. it wasn't our day. but the two premier backs together worked great!!! come on jerry, impress us and pull this off!!!!!! go cowboys!!!!

^close. Hannah played LG. He was the greatest guard of all time. Anthony Munoz (Bengals) was the greatest tackle of all time.

Problem is when it's 4th and 1 or 4th and goal and both players feel like they should get the ball.

Well that is simple.. Adrian gets the call. He knows how to protect it better and well is a better RB.
