Murray's Fumble Issues - Fixable?

I think on one of the games, the announcers said, he carries it and swings his arms, as that is the only way he feels he can get up to speed. Which he seemed slower than the previous years.
All that needs to be worked on. Maybe it's time for a new RB's coach.
Or he needs not to drink all that water the night and morning before the games, could that cause him to be slower on game day.

Something is different as to cause the fumbles more so this year than in the past. Also need to take into account, this was his first full season.

Most of the fumbles were as he was going to the ground. Go back and watch, outside of the pepper fumble where he was stripped the rest were as he was going to the ground. I don't excuse fumbles from him or anyone else on the team including Dez who has 11 fumbled in Dallas vs 12 for Murray in Dallas. If we are to make a big deal out of 1 hey then lets do it for both. After all dez has fewer touches so why 11 fumbles?

I lol'ed at this. Now we are giving Murray the Romo treatment. For years, all we heard was that Romo only throw's INT's at the wrong time. Now it's Murray's turn. These blanket statement's are funny and if you'd ask most coaches, I believe they'd tell you there is no good time to turn over the ball.

Sorry but i dont consider continuing to try to gain yards at the sideline while you are being gang tackled a smart idea. Just my opinion.

Yes, all but the one, he was fighting for extra yards it seemed. As did Randle on his fumble, and Dez with his over the past few years.
Good point.
I remember yelling, not only at Murray, but Dez & Randle also, just get on the ground, you have the first down.
Same for Lawrence's fumble recovery against Detroit, and he remembered when he had the strip / sack /fumble the next time.
How many times have we yelled at Romo, throw the ball away, or take the sack....

The more Murray is discussed the more I'm content for them to let him move on.
  • Injury History. His only 16 game season was 2014.
  • Over used. The history of RBs with some many touches is not good in the following years.
  • Seemed to get a little slower every year.
  • Fumbling got worse as his career progressed. That seems like an odd trend.

again I don't excuse fumbles be it Murray or Romo it is their job to secure the ball what I do care about is these stupid head games that people play Murray has a problem hell he touched the ball 1105 times in Dallas and has 12 fumbles, Dez has touched it 386 times and has 11 if Murray has such an issue then Dez issue is much bigger. Fact is Murray has never had fumble problems in the past and by doing a better job of securing the ball he can cut those fumbles down just as others have done.

I agree. I would want him back if there wasn't such a large pool of RB's in the draft and FA where we can save cap $$ for the Defense. I still cannot get over the 2nd eagle game last year when Murray was stopped behind the LOS approximately 15 running plays. I know that's just 1 game but I think this OLine and Romo's play can spring a lot of RB's in this league. Randall proved that last year.

and yet prior to this season fumbling has not been a big issue for Murray.

I can't agree with this. There have been threads on Murray and his fumbling in the past. He has always had a tendency to carry the ball lose and away from his body.

Does not change the fact that he has not fumbled that much in his career at OU or Dallas until this past season. His fumbles have came as he was going to the ground not swinging the ball away from his body. He has to do better about covering the ball up and securing it but when you look at his numbers fumble wise in college and Pros there is not a big issue

I don't know if the team feels as if it is or it isn't. I suspect that they do have concerns about it. Doesn't really matter. The dye is cast. He will either get signed or move on before any of this gets settled, either way.

I don't want him back at any price.

-Careless: the way he holds the ball is inexcusable. Doesn't seem to want to fix it either.
-Stupid: cant see that fighting for a few extra yards isn't worth risking a turnover.
-Hesitant: seems to almost stop when he breaks free, as if he cant believe it happened.
-Slow: no breakaway speed whatsoever.
-Brittle: only 16-game season was this past one. Wouldn't shock me if it ends up being his only one.

Other than that he's awesome.

All a moot point anyway as I have little doubt a team that needs to sell some tickets hands him a high dollar deal, and early on too.

I think they are doing what they can to get him signed, coaches want him back and have lobbied for that. Really comes down to what Murray is offered outside but if the Cowboys get their way Murray will be back. I think they have made that very clear. There is no way Dallas is paying him 8 or 9 mill as some others have been paid but Cowboys seem to have every intent on bringing him back if they can

Murray is actually one of my favorite players on this team. Having said that, I would not pay him more then 5.5 or so. I get that he could easily demand more but I would not do it. Too many FA backs available who, IMO, could have success in this offense. Too many talented RBs in the draft and I like what Williams might be able to do if he can figure out the Pass Protection and stay healthy. It is what it is.

There are some FA backs and some I don't care to have. I see him as a total package, running, blocking and Receiving and not all guys bring that and yet all of those things are important to the Cowboys which is why Garrett and Romo have stood up and said the importance of keeping him. The position is not just running the ball, if I have to take a back out on passing downs because he can't block worth a damn then he is no good to my team. BP talked about that a lot as did Jimmy, it is not just running the ball

I understand what the position entails. I'm just saying that there are some pretty attractive options out there and I would not allow past performance to dictate what I would do in a contract situation.

Nor will the Cowboys again he is not getting the money other top RB are getting, I think he will and should get more than 5.5 but that is me, I do see him as one of the leagues better RB not some hack as others seem to be treating him. (Not saying you are)

If the numbers suggesting 7 Million are accurate, he's getting pretty good money offered to him and more then I, myself, would have offered.

I agree if accurate it is better than what I had suggested. Myself I hope he is back with the team, I think Dallas has something special taking place on offense

That is what I can't stand. The fans that flat out ignore Dez' fumbles and overemphasize Murray's. Turnovers happen and after a rough patch in the beginning of the year, Murray only had like 1 fumble in the last 8 games.

I agree. I hope a deal can get done and he returns. I think the Cowboys will do what they can within reason to make it happen. If by some chance he leaves I have no hard feelings towards the man.
