I know Murray has been clocked in the 4.3s and 4.4s - blazing times. But in his play in the NFL it doesn't seem to manifest itself..

Is it due to injury, weight gain, style of play differences, just getting older, etc...just curious on peoples' opinions that have followed him since college. thanks

He's a completely different back since he came into the NFL. He used to be a Lamichael James type

He is bigger....and he has had too many injuries to his lower extremities (ankle, knee, hamstrings etc...). It would be eye opening to test guys 40 times after they have been in the league a few years. Wear and tear would no doubt impact what they would run today. I would argue that only the extremely fast guys would maintain good speed (like Chris Johnson, but even he has probably lost a few .10s off his 40). But what do you think a guy like Jason Witten runs today?

I don't recall him ever having 4.3 speed, but maybe I'm wrong.

He ran a 4.37 at the combine. He was 6-0, 212. Rookie Safety Ahmad Dixon was 6-0, 212. I would say that Murry is significantly heavier than Dixon just by looked at them which would indicate that he's gained weight.

Also, some players that have had hamstring issues don't try to run at 100% speed. Miles Austin definitely quit running full speed a few years ago in an obvious attempt to minimize the hamstring issues.

yeah sometimes he runs harder but mostly he likes to just run over you than waste time going around. :)

Fear of heights is hard to overcome but when he breaks into the open field it's like he's about to fall off a cliff.

Yeah, he's got a career average of 4.9 yards per carry. He must be slow.

Good grief.

Man, I'm not trying to start some internet fight, but in all seriousness what is the point of your post? Aside from being snarky, it's off-topic. Its stuff like this that causes pollution on these boards and chases off people like CouchScout.

To everyone that posted actually on-topic and useful information much appreciated.

Semantics, but everything I've seen says he ran a 4.41....

Either way, Murray runs smooth, not hard. He has a really easy style which makes him look a lot slower than he actually is. Having said that, I think he could run a bit harder from time to time.

CouchScout and I get along well. Just ask him.

The point was that the premise is ridiculous.

He 'doesn't play like he has 4.3 speed' and he averages 4.9 yards per carry...not sure what that is supposed to mean. He looks plenty fast to me out there and his ypc is superb.

He is fast enough when he's in the open field. I have no complaints or issues with his speed.

He's plenty fast.

His problem is he doesn't run to daylight.

I will say this though. I think we'll see our offense be much more effective at scoring big plays this year when Dunbar is in the game. Whether it be in the air or on the ground. You have to account for his speed.

he doesn't have a second gear. I never thought Emmitt had second gear also. Not comparing the two but alot of running backs make living on vision, cut back ability and toughness. I think Murray is in for a career year and probably the last guy we should be worrying about. This doesn't mean I would extend him to big contract because his running style and his longevity concern me.

On the Murray front. Keeper league already got Calvin but it's three receivers and a flex. Gonna come down between him and Dez on the redraft standard scoring. What do ya'll think?

I would describe him as quick over fast. He makes quick cuts but I don't see him run away from people. Dunbar is fast.
