Man, I'm not trying to start some internet fight, but in all seriousness what is the point of your post? Aside from being snarky, it's off-topic. Its stuff like this that causes pollution on these boards and chases off people like CouchScout.

To everyone that posted actually on-topic and useful information much appreciated.

The reason why couchscout and others get chased off is by the same group of people that chase off sdogo and hostile and the rest. Murray carry average is on topic. What is not on topic is constant question, ridicule and anger towards someone's personal life, integrity and intellect. YR is not nearly that insecure.

People put way too much emphasis on 40 times.

Starting from a runners stance and training for pure running a straight line is different than football speed (carrying a ball, tracking a pass, cutting to juke a tackle running in pads on grass, etc.)

There is value in the number...sanders running a sub 4.2 is eyepopping and looked that way on the field.

Chris Johnson runs a 4.2 but if he is touched or has to use vision, he seems like a 4.5-4.6 guy.

The 40 is a metric to be used to evaluate, but it doesn't translate to the end all be all in real games very often

yeah murray def is a different back in the nfl than he was in college. Murray in college had breakaway speed. Murray has speed now but he doesn't have the homerun hitter speed. In college it was good luck catching murray, now sum guys can probably run him down. But murray also can truck and stiff arm guys now so ill take this murray.

I'd be willing to bet a dollar to a doughnut Murray's still fast enough to outrun most LBs and even many, if not most, CBs as well.

CouchScout and I get along well. Just ask him.

The point was that the premise is ridiculous.

He 'doesn't play like he has 4.3 speed' and he averages 4.9 yards per carry...not sure what that is supposed to mean. He looks plenty fast to me out there and his ypc is superb.

yr

How is that premise ridiculous? What conclusion are you drawing? I've never made a statement about his YPC, which as you point out is superb.

I'm thinking about the times he does break free and either seems to get caught from behind or simply falls down. Again, that's not a criticism, that's a question. There is a difference.

And btw, I never made any statement about your relationship with CouchScout in particular. I said saying something as condescending as you did, "good grief" was not warranted and does not add to the conversation and that if I recall was part of the reason CS in particular bolted. I guess I'm just not wired to hassle people for no reason, particularly when their history of posting shows nothing of that vinegary attitude.

I'd agree on the LBs...I wonder on the CBs, though you could be totally right.

Side note -I've never heard that saying before - very interesting!

I don't know about the whole lamichael james comparison... But yeah, he messes people up now.

complete BS that was called a penalty. What, is he supposed to slide?

Man that was awesome - I love when he does stuff like that. I had no idea he was that kind of runner until he came to Dallas. Big strong dude.

This reminds me of seeing Jeff Heath run past Scandrick twice last season and Scandrick ran a 4.3 forty.

If he is averaging close to five yards a carry as a work horse, I don't care if he has to take a nap in between strides.

Murray had
I know Murray has been clocked in the 4.3s and 4.4s - blazing times. But in his play in the NFL it doesn't seem to manifest itself..

Is it due to injury, weight gain, style of play differences, just getting older, etc...just curious on peoples' opinions that have followed him since college. thanks

Those of us who are college football fans know what you're talking about. Murray looked like he had Reggie Bush-lite explosiveness and speed when he first got to OU. The injury bug hit him often at OU and by the time he was coming out for the NFL he had lost a lot of that explosiveness. He doesn't run the with same kind of ability he once had, he looked like the next star RB early on.

But, to his credit he also acknowledged this and tried transforming himself into a different kind of back and has become successful in a different running style.

I've always struggled this this when it comes to DeMarco. The guy, in no way, resembles a dude that ran a 4.3 at the combine. If I had to guess based on the way he plays, I'd guess he was a 4.5 guy.

I don't care about the 40 times as long as he produces, but he timed like a speed back but plays like a power back.

After seeing him up close in personal during pregame warmups against Balty he looked real fast. I couldn't believe how fast and big he looked.

He doesn't run 4.3s on grass in pads but he's reasonably fast. Just not that kind of fast. He's an effective RB when he's not injured. I saw tape on him and the combine numbers and thought we had a burner. Not so.

I live in Oklahoma and am a big OU fan, and am often surprised how fast he plays in the NFL. In college, he always looked slow to me, but you have to take into account OU's offense - 90% of the running plays were draws. Murray never even got a running start at the line of scrimmage. Adrian Peterson was the same way - looked slow but dominated when he got to the next level. I do think the last couple of years there has been too much contact in the backfield for him to show what's he's really got, but he's still putting up some pretty good numbers.

Murray has good speed once he gets in stride but he has a limited burst which makes him appear slower than what he is at full speed
