Thanks. Man, this is really sad. What a TALENT. He was in my top 5 of all time.
Wow.
Prince just died. Loved his music in my youth. People Rain is still awesome.
Not sure of the cause.
Friend of mine, former bandmate, worked for Prince up at the Paisley Park studio. Had some interesting insights.
Prince was always on. From first thing in the morning, til he went to bed, he was just like the videos. He was an exacting boss, expecting everything to be done exactly right. Screw up, and he might actually fire you from onstage. He did pay very, very well to balance that. Incredibly prolific, writing tons of songs, his recorded music vault is huge. There could be albums coming out for years. At least for the most recent era, he was very clean living, and focused on good nutrition and health.
Stellar musician. Often played every part on his albums. He did a ton of different styles. After the problems with his record company, he kept all aspects of his musical career in-house. Prince's music was not always to my taste, but I do recall a super rocking New Years' party that was set in motion by playing his bootleg 'Black Album'. Many butts were shakin'.
Had to go watch his solo from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame tribute to George Harrison. Wow. Passion. Go 3:30 for just the solo.
Always loved that performance... the guy had "it" no matter the style of music...
I have so much of his stuff on my iPhone but the one song that keeps playing over and over in my head is When Doves Cry. Man. This sucks.
Purple Rain is probably by far his best known song. When Doves Cry is by far my favorite though.
