Some of you know that I'm a second rate, maybe third or so on..., guitar player..! And my music sucks!

So what do I do?

I hooked me up with a Mandolin! Total different music altogeather but it goes sweet with a guitar. All different fingering patterens from the guitar. So right now I'm just learning to dig it...

;)

What are your favorite Mandolin songs. Youtube...?

My bff is a singer/songwriter that does folk type music. Her first album had mandolin on a few songs and she plays a little herself as well. One of her songs is even called Listen For My Mandolin. You can have a listen here:

As an aside, she is doing a fundraiser to complete her second album. If anyone enjoys her music and is feeling generous, she would be grateful for any contributions.

I love the mandolin sound, especially in bluegrass music. One of my favorite bluegrass groups were known as the Darlings on several episodes of The Andy Griffith Show. Their real name is The Dillards.

My favorite one.

Jimmy Page played some for Led Zeppelin too. It was a cool sound for rock. Going to California is the one song I really liked the sound. No video, just the link.

Here's the Battle of Evermore by Zep.

Losing my Religion (I forget the name of the band) had a cool mandolin riff.

REM and it's one of the few songs by them I like.

My grandfather was a self taught musician. He could play the piano, guitar and mandolin.

The best mandolin player I've heard is Dash Crofts of Seals & Crofts.

There is a decent youtube version of Summer Breeze, but check out some of Seals & Crofts music.

Also, Dash Crofts has a solo album that came out fairly recently and it's mostly mandolin. It's called "Today" and is somewhat obscure, but very good.
