Must eliminate the Penalties

it doesn't matter. the team is being coached and prepped the same way in training camp. jason preaches "the next starter" philosophy about the backups. they need to get this cleaned up once and for all regardless of their role on the team.

Last year the Cowboys finished 2nd to the Raiders in most penalties committed....

No, we did not. The Seahawks did.

Are we going to result to technicalities now? I think the point was farily obvious that we take a ******** amount of penalties. Hard to argue that point, and its certainly not encouraging that we see alot in the first game of the new year.

Just because we want to reduce the number of penalties we commit, that doesn't mean we shouldn't care about the truth.

I want the Cowboys to win every game this season, but that doesn't mean I can just lie and say we went 5-11 last season, then call it a "technicality" when someone points out that I'm wrong.

Don't argue with him. He's going to be right, and you're going to be wrong. Just go check your stats and find out why you're wrong so you can say 'my bad.'

Im pretty sure the guy was just referencing the ESPN crew, because they mentioned during the broadcast that they thought we were second in penalties last year to Oak. We were still at the top of the league for penalties though, and its been a problem that hasn't been fixed by JG as some thought it would be once he got his program installed and got players that he wanted in here. It simply needs to stop.. and stop now.

No, they said we were second in penalty differential. We committed 29 more penalties than our opponents. That's partly because our opponents were called for only 85 penalties, tied for the second-fewest in the league.

Ahh.. that was probably the mistake he made then. I was falling asleep watching it so i missed it, as well, haha.

All he said was you were wrong.. and you were. Just admit you were wrong and move on with the conversation.

My point was made that dumb penalties continue to haunt this team...

Your point was that we still commit alot of penalties?

Well, no kidding..

The only thing Adam was disagreeing with was you continuing to insist that we were second in the league in penalties committed last season until you graciously provided us all with the link to the proof that he was right and you were wrong.

Is it possible that ESPN is wrong. I heard the same info, that we were second onlybto the Raiders. It doesn't matter, they still are top five. The bickering between 2nd and 5th really doesn't matter. The OP has a good point. This team is cursed with stupid penalties. Why? Is this team really that dumb or just unfocused? The troubling thing is that some of the teams best players have been guilty of this over the years. I have seen Ware and Witten hurt the team with penalties.

Reducing penalties was #1 on my wishlist entering this season. After the first quarter of this Raiders game, my hopes have been dashed.

Almost all of our penalties were on players who should barely play this season, if they even make the team --

Parnell (2)
Olawale
T. Williams
Butler
Arkin
Harris
McQuistan
Leary
L. Smith
Taplin-Ross

I don't know, Adam. I don't see starters on this list, but, at least half of them could be key reserves, several of whom will be on our regular-season special-teams units.

The key penalties here were those on special teams which allowed the Raiders to continue drives that had been stopped. That is not acceptable in a regular-season game and will have to be a strong point of emphasis this coming week.

This is a pretty good point, but it's also worth considering that the others didn't have enough snaps to do so.

I feel like if Garrett is who he says he is and we all think he is, this simply cannot be an issue this year. If we are in the top half of the league in (mental) penalties, we are not who we say we are. I'll hold out hope that today was an aberration.

How many fingers does a person have on their right hand?

CYL: Six

Nope, five.

CYL: Six!!!

Sorry it's five. Take a look at your right hand.

CYL: My point was made that there is less than seven.

In order for this team to be a real contender they MUST eliminate the penalties! It is very frustrating when the defense makes a great stop to have the special teams unit commit a dumb penalty (twice)!

:bang2:

this has been a problem for years... It is so frustrating. You CAN NOT give teams automatic first downs in the league.. You will get shredded.

Its the timing of our penalties that also hurt us.. How many 3rd and 15 do we get a holding call on Defense? Its those penalties that kill you.. Its automatic any big positive play we have on offense, the next play we get a hold or a false start... Its frustrating....
