I was watching some clips of the game a member posted today, and I just can't imagine what the players are thinking when they watch the tape.
I mean, look at this.
-2nd and 17.
-Linehan calls a freaking draw play.
-Dallas comes out with 2 TEs, and this ain't Gronk/Hernandez, these are
garbage TEs and the players know it. You don't bring in Swaim and Jarwin to chuck it downfield.
-Carolina sees the TEs and immediately reads the telegraphed run play.
-The Panthers pack eight in the box likes it's freaking 3rd and 2. Seriously - look at that. 2nd and 17 and they're playing with a loaded box, CBs in single coverage with 10 yard cushions, and a FS so deep he's not even on the screen. Complete disrespect for our passing game.
-This should be the most obvious audible in the world for Dak to check into a pass, but he plays it straight.
This play was a 5 yard gain for Rod Smith, but it was basically dead in the water from the second they broke the huddle. As a player, you've just got to be pissed when you see this moronic and repetitive of coaching, and defenses just disrespecting you because they know exactly what the playcall is. It's the football equivalent of your coaches asking you to beat your head against a wall, and I can see how the players would get tired of it QUICK.
Whether it's the coaches' fault, Dak's fault for being unable to make downfield plays and forcing these kind of ultra-conservative calls, whatever, I don't know. But I could see how the players could get sick of it very fast and quit on their coaches like they did with Wade.
