Only Cowboy fans could have 85 threads dedicated to the backup QB. :)

Drew Henson is a talented guy. That talent hasn't disappeared. He's still the same guy physically. So we still have our potential starter of the future. Potentially.

My stance on QBs is pretty simple. Play them when they have proven they can play. Huh? Well its really pretty simple. I'd rather have Steve Young on my bench for 4 years then have Ryan Leaf as my starter for 2 years. All of this putting them in the fire stuff is counter productive. Some guys take to the NFL game right and some guys are on 3 win teams being trotted out to appease fans. But I'd rather find my guy the Brady way. Let him be a backup until he proves he can win. Whether they are Carter, Hutch, Wright, Stoerner, or Henson it matters zero to me. Make them prove they can play first. Until then make sure you have someone who has.

I would have sent Drew Henson to NFLE this year. Let the kid play lesser talents and run a team's huddle. If he gets hurt then so be it and he ends up on the sideline where he was gonna be anyways right? Staying here to toss to a coach was silly IMHO. Use the developmental tools the league provides for goodness sakes.

The time to lose sleep over Henson is 8 weeks into the season if Bledsoe gets knocked out of the game, not now.

Back up and give the kid room to breathe.

Is Henson playing with the 2nd or 3rd team Offense?
Who cares?

It only matters if he plays in a regular season game and Parcells had Henson 3rd string a lot of last year then promoted him to play in place of Vinny when he needed a starter so the current depth chart means nothing.

I agree with this post. They should have sent both Henson and Romo to NFLE. I was hoping that they would. At least they would have gotten some live time and we would not have these threads.

Because we would have a good idea on both guys talent,
so those of us that have not seen the talent or potential that others say they saw at Michigan.

How many people have actually went to NFLE and later became stars in the NFL? Romo and Henson would be in a totally different offensive scheme over there, and probably behind an atrocious o-line. I like the idea behind the NFLE but I'm not sure it's working as expected.

However many or few there are, it speaks more to the caliber of prospect that gets sent to Eurupe moreso than the league's hinderence to QB development. Henson and Romo should have gone this offseason. Especially Henson. The details of why they didn't is still a mystery. At the end of last season if you would have listened to Jerry and Bill it was almost a foregone conclusion they were both headed that way. Then it changed out of the blue.

Henson does have talent. He is a big QB. Athletic fast and mobile. He also has a rocket for a arm. But all that talent is not doing him any good right now. He was away from the game to long and I do not think he will be able to get over that.

If we can get a franchise QB of the future next year or the year after then dump Henson.

Henson will get his chance. Warner played in NFL E and later took the Rams to a SB. He also bagged groceries at one point. Maybe Henson could do both. Naw. (%

Bill retained poccession of his QBs becauses he wants them to be trained his way. He wants them to work out under the supervision of his trainers.

I hope he works out JT, Roger was another Dallas QB who was away from the game for awhile and didn't start immediabtely after the Cowboys finally got him in camp. But he worked out pretty well after he got them to some Superbowls.

Its like math class, your looking at all of these formulas and everything looks like a foreign language. You try and try to figure it out, then one day it hits you. The formations(Formulas) become easy to see now. It may take you 2 years or more to understand it, but at least you get practice at it. Henson has all of this mumbo jumbo stuffed in his skull right now and not enough practice to figure it out. This is why you send him to NFLE. It still may not click over there, but at least he has more opportunities to figure it out. No matter what offense the NFLE team is running, he has to figure out coverages. Right now I agree with JT, who cares how long it takes for him to figure it out as long as we have a better alternative in front of him or before his contract runs out. Were already on strike 2 trying to force young QBs into action in the last 3 years. One more strike and it can really set back our franchise offensively for years.

Kurt Warner, for one. How many QB's of the Future spend their 1st 3 years mired in the 3rd string position. Seems like Henson can't make progress and it's time to move on.

They could not send Henson to Europe since they wanted to fix his mechanics. THAT should have been done last year; this year he could have played in Europe to scrape some of the rust off.

i'm just glad bledsoe is a tough s.o.b.

Same here and I for one would like to see what the guy can do this year with a little pass protection. He hasn't had any on the right side.

You can't realistically evaluate ANY QB until such time he has legitimate time to throw the ball.

I'm not overly concerned at this point.

I think Hensen will be fine...Let him grow into the position...
Lots of time left for him to get better...

Yep, jt. Patience.

Many are so desperate for the next great Cowboy QB, they can't see straight. There was some of us here who believed this kid would be worth the investment in terms of time as well as compensation. I was one. At the end of the day, I along with those other may end up being wrong, but the time portion of that equation is needed before the final analysis is made.

How much time?

I'm not sure, but it would be nice to see this kid vs. live action, i.e. the preseason before we determine whether or not he's taken a step back/forward from 2004.

There have been a couple guys develop nicely, thanks to NFLE. Someone mentioned Warner. Jake Delhomme is another. Brad Johnson, did he not toil over there as well? It's not for everyone, I guess. But I would like to see him playing when and wherever possible. But what do I know?

Just my .02 here, but it's not quite time to cut bait with this kid. Exercise a little patience, please. He's not going anywhere.
