Now that the dust has settled, and the draft is all over, it is time to go through the players we drafted and provide analysis as to what picks made sense, what picks were nonsense/redundant at this time (but can always surprise), and what picks were quietly smart.

1 (12). Micah Parsons LB Penn State (via trade down with the Eagles)
Arguably the best D player in the draft! Great in run stopping and pass rush. No slouch at pass coverage, but he's more of a rusher LB. And we got a free 3rd rounder. No complaints here from me. Great choice.

2 (44). Kelvin Joseph CB Kentucky
Solid choice! A player I wanted. Not a lot of experience, but he's a freakish athlete. At 20, he's capable of developing into a monster. Apparent character issues, but, as long as he behaves off the field, we'll have a phenomenal pick here.

3 (75). Osa Odighizuwa DT UCLA
Freakish athlete at DT. Former wrestler, so he knows how to tackle well. Excellent at pass rushing from the 3T spot.

3 (84 from PHL). Chauncey Golston DE Iowa
Sneaky good pick. I know some people don't like this pick, but I love it! Great choice here. ALso no slouch to run stopping. Here's a video of him:

3 (99). Nahshon Wright DB Oregon State
THis is the one potential headscratcher pick in my view. I like the player, but 3rd round is a bit of a reach for him. However, with it being this close to a 4th round, it might be a bit of a wash. With that said, I like his size and athleticism. He's got solid hands.

Look what he does to the Oregon QB. Great read, great interception! Good speed for his size too. His interception against Washington is a good example of this. I love the way he attacks the ball. A bit like Richard Sherman.

4 (115). Jabril Cox LB LSU
Apparent injury issue to his shoulder, but he's a solid cover LB when healthy. Great value with where we got him. We drafted two wonderful prospects.

4 (138). Josh Ball OT Marshall
Character issues dropped him here. I shall not go into those issues. With that said, he's a massive olineman with great range. Reminds me a bit of Doug Free when I watch him.

5 (179). Simi Fehoko WR Stanford
Smart pick and quietly good value. Tall WR with great speed for his size. Excellent in special teams. I really like this pick.

6 (192). Quinton Bohanna DT Kentucky
At last!! A true 1T DT! Pity it took us this long to find one! Absolute monster in stopping the run and swallowing blocks. Don't expect many sacks from this player. That is not his forte. He can collapse the pocket in pass rush, but the most likely situation in which he sacks the QB is when the QB tries to step up in the pocket. With that said, you're not running the ball on him, and the QB is not going to want to step up with him. Nice move here!

6 (227). Israel Mukuamu DB South Carolina
Fell surprisingly to this spot. Some would say that Wright should've gone here and Mukuamu should've been the 99 pick. Turns out to be a wash. Excellent selection. Sounds like he's going to play S which he's more than capable of. Excellent pick!

    7 (238). Matt Farniok G Nebraska
Well, he's a 7th round pick. There's that. But, he is coming from Nebraska where they do have solid LBers. I like the player.

Overall, great draft! Wright was a bit of a headscratcher, but it was a wash with Mukuamu at 227. Plus, Wright is a solid CB. I like what I saw with him. The only other questionable pick was Ball, but he is a solid blocker. With how similar he is to Doug Free, I can certainly understand the pick. I'd give this draft an A- or B+ at this time from what I see.

Is Farniok making the position switch from OG/C to LB?

I doubt it. With how many LBers we already have, especially with Hines, I don't think he'd make the team at LB. We do need help at OL. I could see him making the team as depth at G which we need.

Funny how we replace a Penn State LB with another Penn State LB.

Polytechnique was asking if our 7th round pick would transition to LB, to which I responded that he'd fit better at G where he was drafted, and that his odds of making the team are better at the position where he was drafted.

CalPoly was raising a question prompted by your observation that Nebraska has solid linebackers. I assume you intended to state that Nebraska has solid guards.

I didn't understand the reference when you said:

    "7 (238). Matt Farniok G Nebraska

Not sure how to respond to this analysis. You basically loved every pick but Wright. That seems ridiculous to me.

However, Ill just ask you a few basic questions on some of these:

-Would you rather have Moerhig or Joseph?

-Would you rather have Barmore or Joseph and Wright? (trade up)

-Would you rather have Osi and Isreal or Mcneil? (trade up)

-Would you rather have Milton or Osi and Isreal? (trade up)

-Please explain in detail what you like about Golston pick. Is he a future starter? Where do you see him playing or being used?

Personally I give this draft a B-. If I take into consideration where we drafted and how many extra 2nd day picks we had I give it a D. Parsons is really the ONLY player giving me any kind excitement. I shutter to think how bad this draft would have been if we were picking where Washington was at 19 and without the extra picks.

I'd rather Moehrig tbh, but I like Joseph a lot. I'd take Osi over Milton. I loved the move. I'd have liked McNeil, tbh, but we could've got him at 99 it turned out. That would've been great! As for Golston, I think he could start, but he'll begin rotating with DLaw I think.

Joseph really jumps out on film. He's the total package and gets his hands on the football too. The risk is he's only started a handful of games in college and is a bit immature. Can't say he's a bad kid, but he's a 20 year old with talent and now prestige and the coaches might have to keep a close eye on him for a while.

99 on Mcneil? Didnt he go 2 or 3 picks in front of us with Milton?

    Barmore or Joseph and Wright?

I like the Joseph pick. Wright is the only one of those I question. And I like OO. Oh, and he did go at 73. That's right. Still, I like OO. I wasn't a huge fan of Barmore tbh. The more I watched his tape, the more overrated I thought he looked. Especially for the type of DT we got. I think we'll like Bohanna. He's a sneaky good DT. I think he's the 1T we needed. We will see what happens, but, atm, I wasn't shocked that Barmore slid like he did. Not worth trading up for.
