This is my mock as of today. I'm hoping Dallas can free up some money and make some splashes in free agency, I doubt they will but it would be nice to have Lamarr Houston(who could be a great 3 tech DT in this scheme) and Jarius Byrd. But those probably will not happen.

1st DT Aaron Donald
Perfect 3 tech in this defense
2nd WR Jordan Matthews big fast physical WR that can play every spot. Line up ride, in the slot, and can go across the middle. Perfect #2 for this team.
3rd OG Brandon Thomas would be a day one starting LG letting Leary move to RG and compete for starting position. Also played LT for 2 years at Clemson. Can play RT if needed,
4th OLB Jordon Tripp I think this guy could be a steal. Could step in on the weakside
5th OG Trai Turner yes another OG. I do not trust Leary for the long term. Turner is a good but raw OG that could compete after his rookie year at the RG spot.
7th ILB Avery Williamson I love watching this guy. Looks like a true fit at MLB in this scheme. Could be a back up and depth for a few years before becoming a starter at SOLB or even MLB.
7th DT Jay Bromley Marinelli type 1 Tech DT
7th DT Eathyn Manumaleuna another 1 tech that could also be depth at 3 tech DT

i hate that you've selected 3 offensive players in first 5 rounds when we have so much needs on defensive side.

I dont draft on need. I think drafting for need gets you bad players that then have to start. I draft on best player at position of need. Every player I drafted fits a position of need on this team and gives us the best player to help this team the most. Reaching on players will make you a losing team. I'm cowboys fan and have watched it for years.

Why do u assume it's a reach when glaring needs are very obvious? Also it's silly to even bring up that you are a Cowboys fan or not. You came up with your mock and I didn't like it and stated why, no need to get defensive, only when during draft get more defensive.

Didn't get defensive. Just saying drafted DT in the 1st and OLB in the 4th. What other needs are there. I just don't like any of these DES ranked 2nd and 3rd rounds. I've watched them and just not a fan. I like the guys I picked better. I have Matthews and Thomas ranked higher than any of the DEs, FS, or DTs that are ranked around our draft pick in those rounds.

I think drafting Matthews will help this team more than any DE in the 2nd. DTs available are not 1 techs and I do t see dallas going back to back DT.

Thomas will give us a day one starting OG IMO and helps this team more than any defensive player.

I just went by rankings to draft the players. Of course someone could fall to us which then j would take.

I'm not against a WR in the 2nd....it just has to be more of a game changer type than Matthews. If Allen Robinson or Davante Adams fall you have to think about it, I just don't see Matthews as the type you can't pass on.

And I like Turner but 2 guards is overkill. That falls into the too many resources in 1 area category in my opinion. I think we could still get a useful d lineman piece in the 5th. Either a 1 tech like Shamar Stephen who could possibly play right away or an end to develop like Aaron Lynch or Casius Marsh.

I agree with turner being over kill I just think he is to good to pass on.

We disagree on matthews. Robinson and Adams are good but I don't see a fit in Dallas. Robinson is slow and not a fan of Adams. I like Matthews much more than those two. But to each their own.

Matthews in round 2 would be silly IMHO.
This team has Dez and last year's 3rd rounder at WR. They could use a round 4 or 5 WR but they do not need to draft one high.
The only reason to draft a WR high is if they are of absurd value or they are not resigning Dez.
There a lot of WRs int his draft class and no need to pick on high. Especially one who is a pseudo reach at 49.

Dallas has a #2 WR in TWill.

not sure how you are mocking but its sounds rather odd.

unless this is a mock where other selections are made you aren't drafting for value at all.
you are drafting pet cats.
and your pet cats play the wrong positions for the dallas cowboys.

Name one that is a wrong position and where one isn't value. Go look at cbs sports where these players are ranked. Show me one that isn't value.

Yes every mock you have to think about other players being drafted in front of your pick.

Thinking williams Is the answer at #2 wr is silly imho. And some 5th round can be a reliable 3. The guy has promise but Matthews is a much better player.
Put Dez Matthews and Williams out there and this offense offense is scary.

It's so sad when people have there mind closed on positions of need and can't open up to better players.

Hope that "scary" offense can score 60 points per game, because they'll have to.

give me some names of defensive players that are better players. Sorry but I don't see any day one difference makers for our defense in round 2 or 3. Not a fan of these DEs, don;t think any are day one better than Selvie or Ware or Carwford and already drafted Donald as our 3 tech. Drafting Tripp in the 4th so there is your OLB to add depth and compete. Where else can we make a change. Please give me some information.

Mock Drafts are going to draw some critical comments so it's pointless to do them and be sensitive.

CBS:
OK, given a methodology it is really easy to point out other options.

Keeping Donald

1. Donald
2. Lamarcus Joyner (not only a bigger position of need but rates higher on board you drew from. Matthews was a 9 pick reach). Kareem Martin, Gabe Jackson other options I like waaayyy better than Matthews in r2.
3. If you want a WR Martavius Bryant is right there at our pick. Arguably better player than Matthews and a round cheaper.
4. Tripp isn't bad but he is rather small. I'd probably go James Gayle and get a bigger body. I need DL to give me 20 snaps a game they don't all have to go to Pro Bowls.--perhaps you've noticed Ware needs a rest and has never had anyone at all behind him who could play? But I don't hate Tripp. Just means we are losing Carter and playing Lee at MLB long-term so not sure thats our best direction.
5. Trai Turner is fine... if you haven't already added an OG. If you have it's just a bad move. In area where you pick him you have Ed Stinson(SDE) and Justin Ellis(1T) amongst many others rate more highly who'd likely play as rookies versus a 4th OG.

silly to quibble over picks this late but guys at prime positions aren't likely at all to help early.
good area to take injury/character concern guys or positions like FB or QB where there are so few NFL spots that guys can drop.
4-3 DL in this area of the draft that can play a lick is pretty rare.
7a
7b
7c

my final haul might look like:
1. Donald -3T
2. Joyner -FS/Nickel CB
3. Bryant -WR
4. Gayle -WDE
5. Turner -OG
7a. Trey Millard -TE --wins job or IR
7b. Spencer Long -OC--to IR
7c. Pat O'Donnell -punter --..goal obviously being to pay no more than rookie minimum for adequate punter.

Williams was the number 2 for much of last year on an offense that rated top 5 in scoring.
WR is a tough position to learn.
Dez caught 45 passes for 561 yards as a rookie.
TWill caught 44 for 736 yards.... that was like the 3rd highest yardage amongst rookies.

All good players and picked at about the right spots. I'm fine drafted 2 Guards, especially these 2.

I understand drafting BPA, but that's generally more of an early round concept. In the mid to later rounds there are usually many players rated on the same tier at each pick. I would be surprised if there wasn't a DE ranked equal to some of your mid to late round picks.

Right I wouldn't either I'm just not a fan of these DEs ranked where we will pick. Martin the 3rd would be a nice pick but I don't think he makes it there.

Also Crichton is my favorite DE in the draft but don't see him there in the 2nd for us.

I like mattews but do we need another possession receiver?
