The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame has officially announced next year's inductees: Pearl Jam, Tupac Shakur, Journey, Yes, Electric Light Orchestra and Joan Baez will all join the class of 2017. Chic's Nile Rodgers will be given the Award For Musical Excellence.

The induction ceremony will be held at Brooklyn's Barclays Center on April 7th, 2017. An edited version will later air on HBO and there will be a radio broadcast on SiriusXM. Ticket details will be announced in January.

Yes, finally. they should have been in years ago...

Pearl Jam:laugh:Debatable, some like boring, uninspired wuss rock but it just isn't my cup of tea. If you are going to put in any "Seattle" band put in Alice in Chains whom in my opinion were much better then PJ or that other worthless band that {helped} introduce Dave Grohl and Courtney Love to the world.

ELO.......ehhh 50/50. Lotsa good songs, but whether they belong in or not is up for argument.

Journey :muttley:Jeesh whos up next for induction? Foreigner? Styx? Or some other 2nd tier crud rock band?

Joan Baez....again debatable but gets my vote because I love some her stuff and found her very attractive in the 60s.

Tupac.......No....Please....No....Does he belong in another HOF? Sure, just not this one.

These are just my opinions and its not like the HOF has any credibility anymore anyways, that went out the door when they inducted Madonna, Run DMC, Joan Jett and Green Day.

And still no Judas Priest.........

I think ELO and Journey deserve to be in there.

I love Tupac but he does not belong in the rock in roll hall of fame.

If it is the Rap Hall of fame...sure.

If you even broaden it out to the Music Hall of Fame...sure.

The Rock n Roll hall of fame...no.

Who cares. Any band or non musical talent (rappers who talk) can get into the RRHOF. Better to be left out.

I think they want to get visitors in. Reason Tupac goes in. Gotta get that cash flowing.

Unfortunately it took an anime to give a small resurgence of notoriety to Yes in the last couple of years.Pearl Jam their early music was really great, then they became awful after the 90s, still a worthy note in history,

Pearl Jam - I like them. Or a super fan // RRHOF = debatable
ELO - same

Yes - I like but ... nahhhh

Journey - big fan // RRHOF = heck yeah!

Baez - not a fan

Tupac - not a fan

Judas Priest - big fan // RRHOF - I say yes but it's probably debatable.

Pearl Jam had a once in a lifetime album in 10, but the rest of the albums were hit and miss. I wouldn't call 10 uninspired in a million years, especially for the time it came out. I agree that Alice in Chains was a better band. I don't think they have an album as good as 10, but Dirt was pretty close and Alice in Chains put forth better albums in Facelift and their self titled album and they were better live.

I still think Nirvana was the far superior band out of all of the Seattle bands. Yes, I know Eddie Vedder came out with 'grunge' first and that you could argue that Cobain got over because of his good looks and Chris Cornell had a far better voice and much of Nirvana's work was aped off other bands. But, I think they were the total package in terms of lyrics, instrumentals, creating a different sound, being a very loud band for such a small band and live performances. I'm not overly nutty about Dave Grohl, but I respect him as a musician. Courtney Love's existence will always bother me.

I think Pearl Jam belongs, mostly because of longevity and 10. The landscape of music has changed so much that it's not really fair to compare them to some of the bands that everybody would agree belongs in the HoF.

That's what the Rock N Roll HoF really didn't consider when it came to Hip Hop and it creates the debate of rappers getting in or not. Tupac Shakur was a really special rap artist and that can't be taken away from him.

Sorry that The Cars weren't able to go in with Journey and ELO.

Tupak going in before Connie Francis and Neil Sedaka... Wow!

Pearl Jam - No. Grunge killed my beloved hair metal dominance

ELO - Super talented. So a big fat yes

Yes - Sure..Why not?

Journey - super duper mega band. Lost my virginity while Journey Escape played.

Baez - A big fat no. she may be a 60s legend but she (can't comment because of political talk rules)

Tupac - Is there a better way to say "rap sucks"?

Judas Priest. Not a Judas Priest fan but recognize their greatness.

I stop complaining about the Rock and Roll HoF a long time ago. That is the most asinine HoF I've ever seen and not worth the energy to argue about. Its almost like listening to people on Facebook debate political opinions. Most aren't capable of debating sugar vs salt and the reasoning to use which.

Yeah, no.

Tupac should have been in a long time ago.

People need to stop being so literal with the term "Rock and Roll HoF"

What is Rock&Roll? What is it supposed to be? I have a vision in my head of what Rock&Roll music is. We all do and it is probably close to the same. When Alan Freed first coined the term Rock&Roll he had a clear definition of what it was. A minute later that definition expanded and got muddied quickly(i.e. Pat Boone and others). The umbrella term Rock&Roll covers a lot of genres for better or worse.

And this btw was taken from their official site,

"Artists—a group encompassing performers, composers and/or musicians—become eligible for induction 25 years after the release of their first record. Besides demonstrating unquestionable musical excellence and talent, inductees will have had a significant impact on the development, evolution and preservation of rock & roll"

Now tell me again why Green Day and Joan Jett got in{among many others}.
