It is a given that Dallas will be winning the Superbowl this season. My prediction is that next year that the league will break its recent tradition of letting the SB winner open up at home on the Thursday night before opening weekend. They will either have Dallas open up on the road next year or at home on Sunday.

If Dallas were to win the Super Bowl, that outcome wouldn't surprise me one bit. For years, there was a huge outcry about Dallas playing on Thanksgiving (even though Detroit had done so as well) and it was deemed a competitive advantage by many critics. I can see the same thing happening with this particular scenario.

The doubters will probably tie the turkey game into their argument as a relevant point. Of course, it wouldn't be, but it's rarely stopped the anti-Dallas contingent before, has it?

When is the last time the Cowboys opened at home? I can't even remember.

Edit: It was the Giants game a few years back, right?

Yep, 2007.

Al Michaels made mention of this "tradition" recently, and I found myself wondering when it became a tradition exactly.

During the 90s, following every season in which the Cowboys won a Super Bowl, they were forced to open the season on the road against a playoff team.

I think they said it started the 1999 season after the Broncos won the Superbowl.

I thought it started after the Pats won their last Superbowl. The 2005 season?

This was probably already posted somewhere else, but the Cowboys have had to open the season on the road 12 times in the last 17 years.
