My Confidence in Garrett Went Up a Point

So the fact that Jerry over-ruled him on Floyd for Frederik, based upon Marinelli and Kiffin, makes you think the draft was Garrett?

No more, no less than Parcells who was over ruled by Ireland when we took Ware over Marcus Spears. Jerry is going to listen to the case these men have to make about a player

According to Garrett he was on board with all the moves including his brother being fired.
You are correct, except that John was not fired. His contract was up and he was allowed to leave.

Before the 2012 season even began I was posting that it was going to be John Garrett's last in Dallas. He absolutely wants to go back to the College ranks as a Head Coach. That is why he applied for the Delaware Blue Hens job. he wants to get out of the shadow of Jason and his Dad that exists in Dallas. If you read the articles about him wanting that job you will see that Jason was behind him in that desire.

I don't know why that is so hard for some people to accept other than they hate with a passion anything positive about this team. Dallas let him go, and promoted Wes Phillips. I also predicted that before the season last year.

If you want to believe Garrett was the one behind the moves this offseason, suit yourself.

I guess you can also believe in the Tooth Fairy if you so choose.

No doubt he had a lot of help and truthfully he's probably not responsible for much. But all the pieces are in place. If he can't win this year, he needs to be fired. But having good personnel helps any coach. This time is a race car; we just need a competent driver. I'm still not giving him much credit. If anything, he'll be the product of those around him. If he can't coach while we have a legendary defensive coordinator and an autonomous offensive coordinator/play caller, there isn't much helping him.

If he can't get deep into the playoffs this year, he sucks as I suspected.

So if the Cowboys win he gets no credit and if they do poorly he gets the blame? lol Pretty much he can't win either way

He won't get all the credit. Maybe he'll get some. But he has 2 great defensive coaches, and guys on offense, plus himself, that are no slouches themselves. I often think his confidence level in himself is a bit misguided. But I'll give him some credit if he can win big. If not, I'll rip him for incompetence just like I have the past 2 years.

This year, it's win or go home. Since I'm a fan, naturally, I hope he wins. But I'm not counting on it. I've seen this movie before.

Well, they might speak to a team's depth a little. But let's face it, we're all up in arms talking about whether guys like Selvie or Beasley will make the team when in reality, they likely won't be on the field for more than 10% of playing time. Those guys mean virtually nothing to the success or failure of the team, it's all about the starters playing full games and you simply don't see that in the preseason.

Point taken.

Most winning coaches do have great staffs no one is doing it alone.

You have hope but you are not counting on it. Somehow or the other, that just cancels each other out.

According to sources from the Dallas Star-Telegram John Garrett was not well liked by other staffers at the team's Valley Ranch headquarters. There has also been a lack of tight end development behind Jason Witten during his tenure. It's not clear whether Garrett was let go, encouraged to seek other employment or some other euphemism for "you're fired" but the Cowboys fired several assistant coaches this offseason so you can come to whatever conclusion you want on John Garrett. I believe he was pushed out.

Sources from CBS claimed John Garrett was encouraged by Jason to pursue the Delaware job probably because Jason knew he wasn't going to be retained by the Cowboys. John Garrett may want to go back to college as a HC but he was hired by the Bucs as their WR coach. It's not that anyone hates anything positive about the team but some here try and spin every negative into a positive. Some here refuse to come to grips that Jason was stripped of his play calling duties that it was his idea.

Believe whatever you want, but the idea he was fired is 100% wrong. I'll leave it at that and go back to lurking.

Believe whatever you want but credible sources say John Garrett was not well liked by other staffers and young TE's were not developing under him. With all the firings this past offseason and his own brother who's the HC being stripped of his play calling duties all signs point to John Garrett being pushed out. You may not want to call that being fired but I do.

You mean people, when they ge fired don't apply to open positions? That's a pretty far step down, plus he was't even considered, despite his 'NFL Experience". Now he's in Tampa Bay coaching the WRs, who picked up, yep Kevin Ogletree. Got to love them Garrett's...

He's been getting all he credit and now he isn't, rightly deserved. The fact that there have been major changes that clearly speak to his demotion show that he has been a major problem, and the Cowboys see it as such. But the Cowboys are still bent on seeing him succeed giving him al the help he needs. Jason should thank Jerry's over-infated ego to be proven right for it...

Sure they do. That doesn't change the fact that he was not fired. Notice that no one within the organization, nor the man himself have ever claimed he was fired. No, just the conspiracy theorists. If you want to ask the man yourself I can get you a number. I'm not guessing on what happened, nor following the media propaganda.

I don't consider a Head Coaching job in college as a step down. He lives in the off season near the Jersey Shore area and wanted to be closer to home.

Really? I hadn't heard that in all my wanderings around NFL sites looking to feed my addiction to football. I thought he was working at Lowe's or Starbucks.

Got to love them Garrett's...
Indeed I do. Loyal to the team, good people, and football smart.

Nor does the fact he applied to a crappy college football program that has no visibility, prove he wanted to leave a high-profile organization, with a connection to his brother, which would give people more visibility to see his work, so that he could eventually become a head coach or that the Cowboys actually wanted him. Especially when the previous year, he got 'promoted' to the passing game coordinator. Sounds great for a guy in the last year of his contract that Jason had no intent on keeping here... Even CEOs that run companies into the ground often don't get fired for public perception reason. Hell, sometimes employees are let go gracefully instead of fired as a favor to save the guy the embarassment.

And whether Ogleree there now or not, I have no idea. But he was brought in by Tampa to play WR after Garrett went there, and this guy knew how he played and was the connection for the Cowboys to get him in the first place.

But yeah keep up with the homerism. Even a scrub college team didnt give this hard working, football smart and loyal coach the time of day.

Actually Delaware isn't a scrub college team, but yeah, keep up the trolling.

I know Garrett and Ogletree are in Tampa, that was sarcasm.
