My confidence is shaken

This isn't a "Chicken Little, The Sky is Falling" post but after witnessing that defensive performance tonight I can't help but be a little nervous about this team.

I recognize that we're 9-1, the best start in the history of our franchise. I don't want to blame any one player (Roy) because the fact of the matter is I nor anyone else has no idea if it's the players or the scheme.

I don't know the coverage assignments so pointing fingers is foolish without knowing the whole deal. However, what I do know is that you don't contend for a Super Bowl title much less win one playing defense like that. And don't give me that BS about how Jason Campbell is a future star. Jason Campbell is destined for a career as a journeyman QB in this league, nothing more. Chad Hutchison could've gone for 350 yards and 3 TDs if he played against that defense tonight.

I have to admit the way the Pats are playing football has me kind of deflated. They are absolutely annihilating the competition. They bludgeoned the Bills 56-10. That's not even fair. I have the Cowboys sharing the #2 spot in the NFL with Green Bay because I don't know who's better at this point and I think both teams would beat the Colts who are decimated by injuries. I just don't see any team in the NFL standing up to the Pats at this point.

I guess I can hope tonight was simply an aberration; nothing in the NFC East is a given. The smart thing to do would be to relish the fact that we're 9-1, yet a part of me can't help but be concerned.

Eh. It reminds me of those teams in the 90s which would drop a game to a team that didn't even deserve to be on the same field with them. It happens. We're probably going to lose a game at some point to a team that really shouldn't beat us.

Hopefully it doesn't happen in the playoffs. :)

I do not relish the thought of this defense going up against Brett Favre.

Im a Commanders fan, but come on.
Your 9-1 and you beat us. The Commanders arent a bad team. We are what you guys were last year. Decent defense, decent offense.

We need to learn what consistency is. We found it on Offense..

You guys had it all year. Defense will be a problem when teams realize that they cant run against you.

PAckers is your worse nightmare. Their running game is bad and they throw the ball 40+ on average. You will need Romo to have a superb game to beat them. Or a bad Farve day....With Farve, you dont kn ow

Your team is good, but they aren't the best team ever. They are going to struggle against teams.

the Commanders threw the ball 50 plus times. Why do people expect us to hold a qb to under 300 yards when he throws the ball 50 plus times? The skins played their best game of the year. They "opened the game up" for Campbell like skins fans have been clamoring for and we STILL won. Defense gave up 24 points. I dont see what the problem is.

Green Bay beat the Commanders 17-14 in a last second 4th quarter kick.
and they lost to the Bears ,we beat badly, 27-20

Was their confidence shaken?

This was the Skins Superbowl .... and we looked past them .... we still won so no big deal.

There's truth in this. Our weakness is still our secondary. There's nothing we can do about it at this point except to hope that we can get better as the season progresses.

It seemed to me that we were surprised when you guys started throwing it as often as you did. Wade basically said as much. We were expecting a supremely run-heavy effort and we got a supremely pass-heavy effort.

focusing on the run does not explain the multiple 3rd and long coversions we surrendered to WIDE OPEN receivers.

I don't think that we learned anything new today. This is a very good team, one of the top three in the NFL, but they have a few holes and we saw them today. I am nervous that if we catch a good team with a quality TE in the playoffs, we could get surprised.

Having said that, the talk about Campbell is not B.S., this Jason Campbell kid is going to be a good one. This Commanders team was fired up for the game, and they gave us all that we could handle.

Clearly, the Cowboys were not on their "A" game today, but they won, against a bitter division rival. The Packers and Lions are the only two teams on this schedule that can beat the Cowboys, and I think Dallas beats both of them.

I have no idea on that one. They kept running the same routes and kept being wide open. I have no idea what the issue was. Not a damn clue.

That's what makes it so troubling. On many of those 3rd and long completions there wasn't a defender within 10 yards of the receiver. I have to believe it was blown assignments because NFL football players can't be that horrible in pass coverage. I know the stinks ran a couple of gadget plays like the Randle El pass, but still.

I am really not worried about the Pack. I think, unlike today, Dallas shows up ready to play and puts a decisive beating on GB.
I have watched them play several times this season and haven't been that impressed.
Its not the NFC teams I am worried about.

The reason they were able to throw the ball 50 times is the defense couldnt get off the field. Call me crazy but I was thinking if you force a team to punt they arent going to run as many plays as they do when you let them walk up and down the field.

Sorry, dude

Even if you could stop the run, It doesnt explain the 3rd down.

Wade is hiding behind his excuses.

We both played like **** on defense.

That is what is bothering me, its not like Campbell was making great throws he was dropping back there playing catch for most of the game. I understand that Wade doesnt want to give up the big play, but he is letting opposing QBs get way too comfortable hitting wide open WRs underneath.

NFC is all you should be worried about to be honest. Next time we play an AFC team with significance will be in the Super Bowl. Who cares about the AFC or the damn Patriots.

Clearly, the Skins game plan is the way to beat the Cowboys, assuming the QB doesn't make too many mistakes.

But, for it to work the Skins had to score more points than they gave up, so they lost.

Good effort, though. The game could have gone either way.

I can't believe now the McNabb is finally on a downward slide that Campbell is coming along and we're going to have to deal with him twice a year for who knows how long. We still have Eli holding the Giants down, so there is a bright spot...

I so hope you are right. But I don't see it. Our pass defense is a problem. We are outscoring our opponents. That won't be easy against SB teams and teams like the Packers.

In fact we look a lot like the Packers. Or if you prefer they look like us. Great pass offense and suspect running game. And their defense is arguably better. I don't know that is true but that is the rumor.
